Curves as measured foliation on noncompact surfaces

In the present work, that regards the Thurston's theory, we prove that, if we choose a closed curve, how we wish, on a noncompact surface, it is always possible to construct a particular masured foliation that has the choosed curve like a leaf; we also prove this foliation has a remarkable property that makes very easy to mesure all homotopy classes of closed curves of our surface. To prove this statement we need some Propositions and some Lemma that we also demonstre.
Power laws and crossovers in off-critical surface-directed spinodal decomposition.

We study the dynamics of phase separation in binary mixtures near a surface with a preferential attraction for one of the components of the mixture. We obtain detailed numerical results for a range of mixture compositions. In the case where the minority component is attracted to the surface, wetting layer growth is characterized by a crossover from a surface-potential-dependent growth law to a universal law. We formulate a simple phenomenological model to explain our numerical results.
Spinodal decomposition in thin films: Molecular-dynamics simulations of a binary Lennard-Jones fluid mixture

We use molecular dynamics (MD) to simulate an unstable homogeneous mixture of binary fluids (AB), confined in a slit pore of width $D$. The pore walls are assumed to be flat and structureless, and attract one component of the mixture (A) with the same strength. The pair-wise interactions between the particles is modeled by the Lennard-Jones potential, with symmetric parameters that lead to a miscibility gap in the bulk. In the thin-film geometry, an interesting interplay occurs between surface enrichment and phase separation. In this work, we revisit the problem of predicting the surface segregation trends in binary transition metal alloys from the knowledge of the basic features of the pure component $d$-band electronic structure within tight-binding approximation. In contrast to previous trend studies, the present one includes, within the fourth-moment approximation (FMA) of the tight-binding scheme, both the difference in the average band energies (diagonal disorder) and the difference in the band widths (off-diagonal disorder) of the two components. This work adopts a survey sampling point of view to estimate the mean curve of large databases of functional data. When storage capacities are limited, selecting, with survey techniques a small fraction of the observations is an interesting alternative to signal compression techniques. Cytotoxic geranylflavonoids from Bonannia graeca

The analysis of the aerial parts of Bonannia graeca led to the isolation and characterization of two new polar geranylated flavonoids (6 and 7). The structure elucidation was performed by extensive spectroscopic methods (1D and 2D NMR) and comparison with literature data. All natural flavonoids isolated from B. graeca (1–7) and some synthetic derivatives (8–11) were tested for cytotoxic activity against four human tumor cell lines. Preliminary structure-activity relationship correlations are discussed.

An improvement of methodologies for characterising synthetic resins used in varnishes employed for art purposes has been suggested. Several kinds of standard of the most common polymeric resins (acrylic, vinyl, poly(vinyl alcohol), alkyd, cellulose nitrate, latex, polyester, polyurethane, epoxy, organosilicic, and ketonic) were analyzed by Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy. Synthetic resins characterization is based on the mathematical treatment of their whole spectrum, dividing it in 13 sections, avoiding the one-by-one interpretation of the absorption bands.
