A Photochemical One-Pot Three-Component Synthesis of Tetrasubstituted Imidazoles

Tetrasubstituted imidazoles can be formed in a photochemical one-pot synthesis from aldehydes, α-aminonitriles, and isoxazoles. Condensation of the first two components produces α-(alkylideneamino)nitriles which react under basic conditions with the acylazirines formed in situ by photochemical ring transformation of the isoxazole component. This process includes an unusual cleavage of the C(2)-C(3) bond of the acylazirine. The reaction mechanism was studied by DFT calculations.

Portable neuroimaging technologies can be employed for long-term monitoring of neurophysiological and neuropathological states. Functional Near-Infrared Spectroscopy (fNIRS) and Electroencephalography (EEG) are highly suited for such a purpose. Their multimodal integration allows the evaluation of hemodynamic and electrical brain activity together with neurovascular coupling. An innovative fNIRS-EEG system is here presented. Objective: To examine cognitive deficits and associated brain activity in fragile X-associated tremor/ataxia syndrome (FXTAS) patients with parkinsonism (FXTp+), in relation to FXTAS patients without parkinsonism (FXTp-), and normal elderly controls (NC). Methods: Retrospective reviews were performed in 65 FXTAS patients who participated in the event-related brain potential (ERP) study and also had either a videotaped neurological examination or a neurological examination for extrapyramidal signs. Java-COM integration with JACOB using XML wrappers

Many Windows-based legacy applications can be programmatically accessed using COM interfaces. However, calling COM components from Java is not straightforward. This report compares four open source Java-COM integration packages. A technique for typesafe Java-COM integration is presented. The technique is based on typesafe COM interface wrappers using jcom, java2com and JACOB libraries. Examples with Microsoft Office applications are presented. XML wrapper and code generator can be bundled with future JACOB releases as an alternative to Jacobgen wrapper generator. nonPeerReviewed

There are two aspects in functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) data that make them awkward to analyse with traditional multivariate methods - high order and high dimension. The first of these refers to the tensorial nature of observations as array-valued elements instead of vectors. Although this can be circumvented by vectorizing the array, doing so simultaneously loses all the structural information in the original observations. The second aspect refers to the high dimensionality along each dimension making the concept of dimension reduction a valuable tool in the processing of fMRI data.
