Synthesis and characterization of a new layered organic-inorganic hybrid nickel(II) 1,4 : 5,8-naphthalenediimide bis-phosphonate, exhibiting canted a…

2008

A new Ni(II) layered hybrid organic-inorganic compound of formula Ni{sub 2}[(NDI-BP)(H{sub 2}O){sub 2}].2H{sub 2}O has been prepared in very mild conditions from N,N'-bis(2-phosphonoethyl)napthalene-1,4:5,8-tetracarboximide (NDI-BP ligand) and NiCl{sub 2}. The X-ray powder structure characterization of the title compound suggests a pillared layered organic-inorganic hybrid structure. The distance between the organic and inorganic layers has been found to be 17.8 A. The inorganic layers consist of corner sharing [NiO{sub 5}(H{sub 2}O)] octahedra and they are pillared by the diphosphonate groups. DC and AC magnetic measurements as a function of temperature and field indicate the presence of 2…

Mechanical characterization of bio-based composite/metal laminates for an application in street furniture

2019

In this work, it is proposed to study the influence of three manufacturing parameters in the development of bio-basedcomposite/steel hybrids. These parameters arethe methodof assembly between composite and metal, the distribution of composite and steellayers throughthe thicknessof the hybrid, and the stacking sequence of the composite part of the hybrid. The study was conducted through impact tests at different energies and quasi-static three-point bending tests. For each of these parameters, the influenceon the mechanical properties of the hybrid is evaluated. The results show that these properties depend essentially on the relative distribution of steel and composite through the thickness.

Concerted halogen and hydrogen bonding in [RuI2(H2dcbpy)(CO)2]···I2···(CH3OH)···I2···[RuI2(H2dcbpy)(CO)2].

2011

A new type of concerted halogen bond-hydrogen bond interaction was found in the solid state structure of [RuI(2)(H(2)dcbpy)(CO)(2)]···I(2)···(MeOH)···I(2)···[RuI(2)(H(2)dcbpy)(CO)(2)]. The iodine atoms of the two I(2) molecules interact simultaneously with each other and with the OH group of methanol of crystallization. The interaction was characterized by single crystal X-ray measurements and by computational charge density analysis based on DFT calculations.

Effects induced by 4.7 eV UV laser irradiation on pure silica core multimode optical fibers investigated by in situ optical absorption measurements

2011

We investigated by in situ optical absorption measurements the effects induced by 4.7 eV UV laser irradiation on pure silica core optical fibers. Laser irradiation with 100 MWcm−2 laser intensity generates in the fiber E′ centers which partially decay after irradiation due to their reaction with diffusing H2. An absorption band peaked at 5.3 eV is observed to grow in the post-irradiation stage with a kinetics anti-correlated to the decay of the 5.8 eV band of the E′ centers. The defect absorbing at 5.3 eV is proposed to be formed by trapping on pre-existing precursors of hydrogen atoms made available by breaking of H2 on E′.We also show by repeated irradiation experiments that the 5.3 eV-ab…

Neutral nido-heteroboranes with non ionisable hydrogen as arenes in coordination

2003

Designed ligands have been synthesised to produce the first arene-like metallacarborane. For arene-like coordination the number of electronegative elements on the coordinating site must be kept to a minimum. Choosing ligands with bulky substituents on the heteroatom allows easy rearrangement and arene-like coordination. This is more hampered the higher the number of hetereoatoms to be re-located.

Investigation on the ganaration process of HO2• radicals by γ-ray irradiation in O2-loaded fumed silica

2013

Abstract We report an experimental investigation on the effects of γ-ray irradiation in three types of fumed silica previously loaded with O 2 molecules. Our data indicate that the main effect of irradiation in these systems is to generate a very large concentration of HO 2 interstitial radicals (about 10 18  molecules/cm 3 ). Furthermore, the number of generated HO 2 was found to be larger in the samples with higher O 2 contents before irradiation. This correlation suggests that HO 2 radicals are induced by reaction of interstitial O 2 molecules with radiolytic H atoms, as previously suggested for O 2 -loaded bulk amorphous silicon dioxide (a-SiO 2 or silica) samples. However, at variance …
