NOx selective catalytic reduction at high temperatures with mixed oxides derived from layered double hydroxides
2012
[EN] Mixed oxides derived from layered double hydroxides (LDHs) have been investigated as potential catalysts for the NOx removal at high temperatures. The best results were obtained with Co–Al mixed oxides derived from LDHs that are active at 750 ◦C in the presence of oxygen and water. These catalysts could reduce or/and decompose the NOx formed in the dense phase of the FCC regenerator, being deactivated at oxygen concentrations higher than 1.5%. Nevertheless this deactivation is not permanent and they would be regenerated after reduction with hydrogen at 530 ◦C. The influence of the layered double hydroxides (LDHs) preparation method on the catalyst activity was studied, observing that t…
Organic solvent-soluble contents of nickel and cobalt in some algae
1990
In pursuit of our work on metal contents of lipid fractions isolated from plant material, we now show by means of highly sensitive analytical methods that nickel and cobalt are also present in organic extracts of algae in detectable amounts
Analysis of Prey Composition in Eurasian Reed Warblers' Acrocephalus scirpaceus Droppings at Four Breeding Sites in Italy
2022
Our aim was to investigate the among-populations diversity of prey composition in Eurasian Reed Warblers’ diets via their droppings, both to assess the ecological validity of this sampling method and to test whether the prey species most abundant in fecal samples were also the most present in the Italian study site. We collected fecal samples at four sites throughout Italy, for a total of 144 samples. Within reedbeds, the breeding habitat of the Eurasian Reed Warbler, we also collected arthropods by carrying out entomological sweepings at one of the study sites. Within the fecal samples, we identified dozens of prey species, belonging mainly to Araneae, Coleoptera, Diptera, Hymenoptera and …

The Dynamics of Currency Substitution: Evidence from UK Foreign Currency Balances
2006
This study evaluates the magnitude of the permanent and the transitory components of currency substitution in the UK. The results indicate that the permanent component, the ratchet effect, accounted only for a small share while the aggregate temporary component, speculation, whose impact lasts about one month, was responsible for most of the dynamics of UK currency substitution. The findings thus lend support to the view that at worst currency substitution would only cause short-run problems for the UK economy.
Environmental context determines pollution impacts on ecosystem functioning
2023
Global change assessments have typically ignored synthetic chemical pollution, despite the rapid increase of pharmaceuticals, pesticides and industrial chemicals in the environment. Part of the problem reflects the multifarious origins of these micropollutants, which can derive from urban and agricultural sources. Understanding how micropollutants harm ecosystems is a major scientific challenge due to asymmetries of stress across trophic levels and ecological surprises generated by multiple drivers interacting in human-impacted landscapes. We used field assays above and below municipal wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs) in 60 sampling locations across 20 Swiss streams to test how micropoll…

Towards an Economy of Encounters? : A critical study of affectual assemblages in coworking
2017
Abstract Coworking spaces have been established in great numbers around the globe over the past 10 years. Previous studies on coworking spaces argue that these spaces are designed to enable serendipitous encounters. Here we introduce the concept of an economy of encounters, arguing that both intended and unintended encounters have become a form of production in the knowledge-based new economy. This paper draws upon the critical analysis of three case studies of different coworking settings − two open coworking spaces and a corporate coworking office. Following Deleuze and Guattari, we see coworking spaces as affectual assemblages that create affects that push knowledge workers in flow and m…
Ocena działalności Trybunału Konstytucyjnego
2019
Interpreting the decomposition of gender earnings gap
2010
In this paper we discuss a decomposition of the gender monthly earnings differential into three components: the first is due to differences in individual characteristics, the second is due to discrimination and the last to the differential in hours worked. The Oaxaca-Blinder hourly wage decomposition is perfectly integrated into the decomposition of the monthly earnings gap. In order to evaluate the effects of this components on the monthly earnings gap, we calculate counterfactual earnings gaps, estimating what would happen if various aspects relating to the two genders were equal (for example, educational level), and then we compare these with the empirical earnings gap. The aim of the co…
