Open, sesame: The reaction of a heterobicyclic pentalenediyl-like Me2Ph4B4N2C2 dianion with [{(C5Me5)RuCl}4] cleaves the N[BOND]N bond of the ligand and affords a pseudo-triple-decker sandwich complex containing a B4N2C2 middle deck (see picture). This eight-membered ring features nearly linear B-N-B moieties and brings the ruthenium centers unusually close. Side-Effects of High-Dose Dicloxacillin Therapy

The limiting toxic factor in high-dose penicillin therapy seems to be the effect on the central nervous system. In comparison with other semisynthetic penicillins dicloxacillin is the most neurotoxic in rabbits, as previous studies have shown (11). In rabbits neurotoxic serum levels also produce hemolysis. Cloxacillin, oxacillin and carbenicillin showed to be less neurotoxic and did not induce hemolysis. The present study was undertaken to determine whether in high-dose dicloxacillin therapy hemolysis is likely in man and is, therefore, of clinical importance.

Volatile Compounds in Red Wines Processed on an Industrial Scale by Short Pre-fermentative Cold Maceration

Nero d’Avola and Shiraz grapes were subjected to pre-fermentative cold maceration at 4°C for about 24 h in industrial winemaking, in order to evaluate the effects of the pre-treatment on aroma profile. The volatile compounds were identified by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry and grouped into 14 chemical families 4 and 9 months after bottling. Principal components analysis (PCA) plots of the volatile compounds showed clear separation among wines from the Shiraz and Nero d’Avola varieties.
