Peregrine soliton in optical fiber-based systems

International audience; We report the first observation in optics of the Peregrine soliton, a novel class of nonlinear localized structure. Two experimental configurations are explored and the impact of non-ideal initial conditions is discussed.

Methane line parameters in HITRAN

Abstract Two editions of the methane line parameters (line positions, intensities and broadening coefficients) available from HITRAN in 2000 and 2001 are described. In both versions, the spectral interval covered was the same (from 0.01 to 6184.5 cm −1 ), but the database increased from 48,033 transitions in 2000 to 211,465 lines in 2001 because weaker transitions of 12 CH 4 and new bands of 13 CH 4 and CH3D were included. The newer list became available in 2001 in the “Update” section of HITRAN. The sources of information are described, and the prospects for future improvements are discussed.

Statistical analysis of pulse propagation driven by polarization-mode dispersion

International audience; The linear propagation of pulses driven by random polarization-mode dispersion is considered. Analytical expressions are derived for the probability-density functions of the pulse width, timing displacement, and degree of polarization. The study is performed in Stokes space, and frequency correlation between modes is shown to play an important role in it.

Temporal coherence in mirrorless optical parametric oscillators

International audience; One of the unique features of mirrorless optical parametric oscillators based on counterpropagating three-wave interactions is the narrow spectral width of the wave generated in the backward direction. In this work, we in- vestigate experimentally and numerically the influence that a strong phase modulation in the pump has on the spectral bandwidths of the parametric waves and on the efficiency of the nonlinear interaction. The effects of group-velocity mismatch and group-velocity dispersion are elucidated. International audience; A summary of the main results obtained by the two groups in the field of H-2 vibrational spectral line signatures for various mixtures. in connection with CARS diagnostics of H-2-O-2 combustion systems, is presented. H-2-X Systems may have specific large inhomogeneous spectral features, due to the dependence of the line broadening and line shifting on the (H-2) radiator speed, particularly at high temperature. Generic nature of long-range repulsion mechanism on a bulk insulator?

Dynamic atomic force microscopy measurements are reported that provide evidence for the presence of long-range repulsion in molecular self-assembly on a bulk insulator surface. We present the structures formed from four different benzoic acid derivatives on the (10.4) cleavage plane of calcite kept in ultra-high vacuum. These molecules have in common that they self-assemble into molecular stripes when deposited onto the surface held at room temperature. Radial electron fluence around ion tracks as a new physical parameter for the detection threshold of PADC using Geant4-DNA toolkit

International audience; The detection threshold of poly(allyl dyglycol carbonate), PADC, for C ions is determined as 55 eV/nm in stopping power, which is significantly higher than that for proton and He ions. The stopping power is not a universal parameter for expressing the detection threshold of PADC. A new physical parameter of Radial Electron Fluence around Ion Tracks, REFIT, is proposed to describe the detection threshold of PADC. It is defined as the number density of electrons passing through the surface of a cylinder of a certain radius that is co-axial with the trajectory. 18 parameter deformations of the Peregrine breather of order 10 solutions of the NLS equation

2015

We present here new solutions of the focusing one-dimensional nonlinear Schrödinger (NLS) equation which appear as deformations of the Peregrine breather of order 10 with 18 real parameters. With this method, we obtain new families of quasi-rational solutions of the NLS equation, and we obtain explicit quotients of polynomial of degree 110 in x and t by a product of an exponential depending on t. We construct new patterns of different types of rogue waves and recover the triangular configurations as well as rings and concentric rings as found for the lower-orders.

Rational solutions to the mKdV equation associated to particular polynomials

International audience; Rational solutions to the modified Korteweg-de Vries (mKdV) equation are given in terms of a quotient of determinants involving certain particular polynomials. This gives a very efficient method to construct solutions. We construct very easily explicit expressions of these rational solutions for the first orders n = 1 until 10.

Evaluation of the areal material distribution of paper from its optical transmission image

International audience; The goal of this study was to evaluate the areal mass distribution (defined as the X-ray transmission image) of paper from its optical transmission image. A Bayesian inversion framework was used in the related deconvolution process so as to combine indirect optical information with a priori knowledge about the type of paper imaged. The a priori knowledge was expressed in the form of an empirical Besov space prior distribution constructed in a computationally effective way using the wavelet transform.
