External labeling and algorithms for hierarchic networks

1988

Algorithms for generating internal data structures for networks are given. Data bases for networks can be partitioned hierarchically. Nodes of lower class networks may also be in the interior of a higher class arc which will be split if it is included into the final network. Naming is based either on nodes or on arcs.

The ius liberorum of non-Roman citizens in Egypt. Some notes on an old Taubenschlag’s hypothesis

2019

Abstract Normally the ius liberorum is associated with Roman citizens, but in the lex Irnitana we have evidence of non-Roman members of the curial class of Baetica who took advantage of this privilege. In Roman Egypt, the constitution of the boulai in the nome capitals could have provided a similar context for the selection of local elites in which Romanized Egyptians obtained that privilege.

Pose classification using support vector machines

2000

In this work a software architecture is presented for the automatic recognition of human arm poses. Our research has been carried on in the robotics framework. A mobile robot that has to find its path to the goal in a partially structured environment can be trained by a human operator to follow particular routes in order to perform its task quickly. The system is able to recognize and classify some different poses of the operator's arms as direction commands like "turn-left", "turn-right", "go-straight", and so on. A binary image of the operator silhouette is obtained from the gray-level input. Next, a slice centered on the silhouette itself is processed in order to compute the eigenvalues …

Discontinuous Gradient Constraints and the Infinity Laplacian

2012

Motivated by tug-of-war games and asymptotic analysis of certain variational problems, we consider a gradient constraint problem involving the infinity Laplace operator. We prove that this problem always has a solution that is unique if a certain regularity condition on the constraint is satisfied. If this regularity condition fails, then solutions obtained from game theory and $L^p$-approximation need not coincide.

Evolution Within a Bizarre Phylum: Homologies of the First Echinoderms

1998

SYNOPSIS. The Extraxial/Axial Theory (EAT) of echinoderm skeletal homologies describes two major body wall types: axial and extraxial. The latter is subdivided into perforate and imperforate regions. Each of the regions has a distinctly different source in early larval development. Axial skeleton originates in the rudiment, and develops in association with the pentaradially arranged hydrocoel according to specific ontogenetic principles. Perforate and imperforate extraxial regions are associated with the left and right somatocoels respectively, are not governed by ontogenetic principles of plate addition, and are products of the non-rudiment part of the larval body. The morphology of even t…

Q-Chem 2.0: a high-performanceab initio electronic structure program package

2000

ABSTRACT: Q-Chem 2.0 is a new release of an electronic structure programpackage, capable of performing first principles calculations on the ground andexcited states of molecules using both density functional theory and wavefunction-based methods. A review of the technical features contained withinQ-Chem 2.0 is presented. This article contains brief descriptive discussions of thekey physical features of all new algorithms and theoretical models, together withsample calculations that illustrate their performance. c 2000 John Wiley S electronic structure; density functional theory;computer program; computational chemistry Introduction A reader glancing casually at this article mightsuspect on t…

Estimating Lower Limb Skeletal Loading

2011

Osteoporosis, accidents and subsequent bone fractures cause suffering on an individual level, as well as an economical burden to the society (Ortiz-Luna et al., 2009; Stevens & Olson, 2000). It has been estimated that, in Finland alone, between 30,000 to 40,000 osteoporosis-related fractures occur annually and that 400,000 Finnish people have osteoporosis (Duodecim, 2008). There are a few potential ways of preventing bone fracture, i.e. strengthening bones and/or preventing falls (Ortiz-Luna et al., 2009; Stevens & Olson, 2000). In order to withstand prevalent loading without breaking; while remaining relatively light in weight to allow for locomotion, bones have the ability to adapt their …

Managing Human Factors to Reduce Organisational Risk in Industry

2018

[EN] Human factors are intrinsically involved at virtually any level of most industrial/business activities, and may be responsible for several accidents and incidents, if not correctly identified and managed. Focusing on the significance of human behaviour in industry, this article proposes a multi-criteria decision-making (MCDM)-based approach to support organizational risk assessment in industrial environments. The decision-making trial and evaluation laboratory (DEMATEL) method is proposed as a mathematical framework to evaluate mutual relationships within a set of human factors involved in industrial processes, with the aim of highlighting priorities of intervention. A case study relat…

Impact of building automation control systems and technical building management systems on the energy performance class of residential buildings: An …

2014

Abstract The paper focuses on the evaluation of the impact on residential buildings of building automation control (BAC) and technical building management (TBM) systems. This work shows how the control, monitoring and automation functions considered by the European Standard EN 15232 can considerably influence the energy performance of a single-family test house and, consequently, its energy performance class. The study puts into evidence that the benefit that can be drawn from the installation of BAC and TBM systems depends on the type of technical appliances in the household and on the starting energy performance class. Finally, the economic impact due to the introduction of BACS or TBM fu…

Validation of (68)Ge/(68)Ga generator processing by chemical purification for routine clinical application of (68)Ga-DOTATOC.

2008

Abstract Introduction Imaging of somatostatin receptor expressing tumours has been greatly enhanced by the use of 68 Ga-DOTATOC and PET/CT. Methods In this work, a purification method for the 68 Ge/ 68 Ga generator eluate and a method to produce 68 Ga-DOTATOC suitable for clinical use were evaluated. The generator eluate was purified and concentrated on a cation-exchange cartridge in HCl/acetone media. The efficacy of this procedure in eliminating metal impurities from the 68 Ga solution was investigated by ICP-MS. The radiotracer quality was evaluated by radio-TLC, GC and γ-ray spectrometry. Results 68 Ga-DOTATOC preparations ( n =33) were carried out with a mean synthesis yield of 59.3±2.…
