Novel Version of PageRank, CheiRank and 2DRank for Wikipedia in Multilingual Network Using Social Impact
2020
International audience; Nowadays, information describing navigation behaviour of internet users are used in several fields, e-commerce, economy, sociology and data science. Such information can be extracted from different knowledge bases, including business-oriented ones. In this paper, we propose a new model for the PageRank, CheiRank and 2DRank algorithm based on the use of clickstream and pageviews data in the google matrix construction. We used data from Wikipedia and analysed links between over 20 million articles from 11 language editions. We extracted over 1.4 billion source-destination pairs of articles from SQL dumps and more than 700 million pairs from XML dumps. Additionally, we …
Solution stoichiometry determines crystal stoichiometry in halogen-bonded supramolecular complexes
2007
The behavior of the methylisonicotinate (MINC) building block as halogen bonding-acceptor module has been investigated in the solid state. Both the N and the O atoms of MINC interact with the iodine atoms of 1,4-diiodotetrafluorobenzene (DITFB) giving rise to N⋯I and O⋯I interactions. Hierarchy between these interactions allows the control of the composition and thus the structure of the supramolecular complex, according to the composition of the reaction mixture. A structure based on an infinite chain and a trimeric supermolecule have been obtained starting from a 1 ∶ 1 MINC/DITFB stoichiometry or by using a large excess of MINC, respectively. While the former structure shows simultaneous …
A family of experiments to generate graphical user interfaces from BPMN models with stereotypes
2021
Abstract Context: A significant gap separates Business Process Model and Notation (BPMN) models representing processes from the design of Graphical User Interfaces (GUIs). Objective: This paper reports on a family of experiments to validate a method to automatically generate GUIs from BPMN models using stereotypes complemented with UML class primitives, and transformation rules. Method: We conducted two replications (23 and 31 subjects respectively) in which we compared two methods to generate GUIs from BPMN models; one automatic (using Stereotyped BPMN models) and one manual (using Non-stereotyped BPMN models). The study focuses on comparing effort, accuracy, and satisfaction (in terms of …
A Map-Based Visualization Tool To Support Tutors In E-Learning 2.0
2009
Web 2.0 regards essentially the social issues about the new usage of web applications, but participative web and user generated contents induce a new way to think about the design of the web applications themselves. This is particularly true in the field of educational systems that are all web based applications. Many researchers are now devoted to study what is called e-learning 2.0 both as regards the technological issues in the field of computer science, and in relation to the impact of the web 2.0 social and psychological issues on the education process itself. One of the most crucial topics in e-learning 2.0 is the way to provide support to the teacher/tutor to avoid cognitive overload…
Importance sampling for Lambda-coalescents in the infinitely many sites model
2011
We present and discuss new importance sampling schemes for the approximate computation of the sample probability of observed genetic types in the infinitely many sites model from population genetics. More specifically, we extend the 'classical framework', where genealogies are assumed to be governed by Kingman's coalescent, to the more general class of Lambda-coalescents and develop further Hobolth et. al.'s (2008) idea of deriving importance sampling schemes based on 'compressed genetrees'. The resulting schemes extend earlier work by Griffiths and Tavar\'e (1994), Stephens and Donnelly (2000), Birkner and Blath (2008) and Hobolth et. al. (2008). We conclude with a performance comparison o…
Rural settlement in the territorium of Ilici: the Roman farm of The Cabezo-Clot de Galvany (Elx, Alicante)
2015
Do Grading Gray Stimuli Help to Encode Letter Position?
2021
Numerous experiments in the past decades recurrently showed that a transposed-letter pseudoword (e.g., JUGDE) is much more wordlike than a replacement-letter control (e.g., JUPTE). Critically, there is an ongoing debate as to whether this effect arises at a perceptual level (e.g., perceptual uncertainty at assigning letter position of an array of visual objects) or at an abstract language-specific level (e.g., via a level of “open bigrams” between the letter and word levels). Here, we designed an experiment to test the limits of perceptual accounts of letter position coding. The stimuli in a lexical decision task were presented either with a homogeneous letter intensity or with a graded gra…
Gödel and the Blind Watchmaker
2015
While accepting that contingency is key to biological evolution, we wonder how much need there is for it. It is extremely difficult to talk about trends in evolution, but the fact remains that they are found here and there when evolutionary experiments are repeated. But we should ask, for example, whether there is an unavoidable tendency of life towards progressive complexity . This chapter deals with certain theoretical considerations from Logic and Computing on the conditions necessary to formulate a predictive evolutionary theory .
Human motor system
2020
Abstract This chapter deals with the general issues of motor control and coordination rather than with neurophysiological mechanisms that form the basis for natural, coordinated movements. It is useful that, before we consider the basics of motor behaviours and disorders, we introduce a general theoretical framework adequate to consider issues of control and coordination in biological systems. However, it is impossible to separate issues of control from issues of coordination during natural human movements. Hence, this chapter will also deal with coordination, exploring how individual effectors (such as muscles, joints and limbs) are made to act together in a task-specific way. Ultimately, …
