Efficient and portable acceleration of quantum chemical many-body methods in mixed floating point precision using OpenACC compiler directives

2016

It is demonstrated how the non-proprietary OpenACC standard of compiler directives may be used to compactly and efficiently accelerate the rate-determining steps of two of the most routinely applied many-body methods of electronic structure theory, namely the second-order M{\o}ller-Plesset (MP2) model in its resolution-of-the-identity (RI) approximated form and the (T) triples correction to the coupled cluster singles and doubles model (CCSD(T)). By means of compute directives as well as the use of optimized device math libraries, the operations involved in the energy kernels have been ported to graphics processing unit (GPU) accelerators, and the associated data transfers correspondingly o…

SMS disaster alert system programming

2008

Floods are natural phenomena that profoundly affect the development of human society, as they are the most widespread disasters in the world and they cause the greatest property and human loss. The flood warning system presented in this paper provides a reliable and effective solution, which is complementary to existing traditional warning systems; it employs information and communication technology and specialized devices.

Metamodel Specialization for DSL Tool Building

2016

Most of domain-specific tool building and especially diagram editor building nowadays involves some usage of metamodels. However normally the metamodel alone is not sufficient to define an editor. Frequently the metamodel just defines the abstract syntax of the domain, mappings or transformations are required to define the editor. Another approach [8] is based on a fixed type metamodel, there an editor definition consists of an instance of this metamodel to be executed by an engine. However there typically a number of functionality extensions in a transformation language is required. The paper offers a new approach based on metamodel specialization. First the metamodel specialization based …

Performance evaluation of a high resolution dedicated breast PET scanner

2016

Purpose: Early stage breast cancers may not be visible on a whole-body PET scan. To overcome whole-body PET limitations, several dedicated breast positron emission tomography (DbPET) systems have emerged nowadays aiming to improve spatial resolution. In this work the authors evaluate the performance of a high resolution dedicated breast PET scanner (Mammi-PET, Oncovision). Methods: Global status, uniformity, sensitivity, energy, and spatial resolution were measured. Spheres of different sizes (2.5, 4, 5, and 6 mm diameter) and various 18 fluorodeoxyglucose (18F-FDG) activity concentrations were randomly inserted in a gelatine breast phantom developed at our institution. Several lesion-to-ba…

A New Dissimilarity Measure for Clustering Seismic Signals

2011

Hypocenter and focal mechanism of an earthquake can be determined by the analysis of signals, named waveforms, related to the wave field produced and recorded by a seismic network. Assuming that waveform similarity implies the similarity of focal parameters, the analysis of those signals characterized by very similar shapes can be used to give important details about the physical phenomena which have generated an earthquake. Recent works have shown the effectiveness of cross-correlation and/or cross-spectral dissimilarities to identify clusters of seismic events. In this work we propose a new dissimilarity measure between seismic signals whose reliability has been tested on real seismic dat…

Context-Aware Visual Exploration of Molecular Datab

2006

Facilitating the visual exploration of scientific data has received increasing attention in the past decade or so. Especially in life science related application areas the amount of available data has grown at a breath taking pace. In this paper we describe an approach that allows for visual inspection of large collections of molecular compounds. In contrast to classical visualizations of such spaces we incorporate a specific focus of analysis, for example the outcome of a biological experiment such as high throughout screening results. The presented method uses this experimental data to select molecular fragments of the underlying molecules that have interesting properties and uses the res…

Recent Advances in Security and Privacy for Future Intelligent Networks

2020

The articles in this special section focus on recent advances in security and privacy for future intelligent networks. Recent booming advancements in networking techniques have led to an evolution toward future intelligent networks (FINs). This trend takes place under a circumstance in which a great number of devices are connected for specific purposes by a variety of novel techniques. In FINs, we envision the benefits of integrating intelligence into networks. Contemporarily, these emerging techniques are still at the exploration stage, leaving many privacy and security challenges unaddressed. Existing researchers have already uncovered a great amount of attacks and threats. The situation …

Optimization of Cultural Heritage Virtual Environments for Gaming Applications

2020

Serious games are games with a purpose beyond entertainment and are widely acknowledged as fruitful tools for learning and developing skills across multiple domains, including educational enhancement. In the last few years, the world of serious games has widely increased. The use of these types of games can aid in classrooms to not only help the students learn concepts but also to improve their motivation to do so. However, designing games necessitates very specialized personnel and the process can often be costly and slow. The adaptions of the design to the implantation phase are also difficult and the process needs more focus. The challenge of this study was to create a game within the co…

Computer-supported collaboration in a scripted 3-D game environment

2005

The particular focus of this paper is on scripting collaboration in a 3-D virtual game environment intended to make learning more effective, but also take into account the risk of over-scripting learning. The empirical experiment eScape, which encourages learners to solve problems collaboratively, is also presented. This study attempts to find out whether the features of 3-D games can be used to create meaningful scripted collaborative learning environments. The results indicated that scripting persuaded student teams to enter into collaboration, but the actual processes varied.

Fiktiiviset reseptit ja mahdottomat ateriat kirjallisen komiikan lajina

2017

Fictitious recipes, impossible meals: a subgenre of comical literature The article looks into ctitious and imaginative food recipes and comical potentiality of such food related text types as listings of ingredients, foodstuffs, dishes, or portions. The focus is on imaginary, fantastic, and impossible meals and recipes: portions that could not be implemented in the real world. The recipe as a form is covered from genre-theoretical, narratological, poetic and procedural perspectives. The special point of reference is experimental literature and its interests in literary forms, rules, constraints, and procedures − the terms that could be used to define also culinary recipes as codes or script…
