Collaborative Game‐play as a Site for Participation and Situated Learning of a Second Language

This paper addresses additional language learning as rooted in participation in the social activity of collaborative game‐play. Building on a social‐interactional view of learning, it analyses some of the detailed practices through which players attend to a video game as the material and semiotic structure that shapes play and creates affordances for additional language learning. We describe how players engage with the language resources offered by the game, drawing on the vocabulary, constructions, prosodic features and utterances modelled on game dialogue, in building their own actions during collaborative play. Eye Movement Analyses for Obtaining Readability Formula for Latvian Texts for Primary School

To determine the difficulty of text, readability formulas can be used. The research was made to find readability formula for Latvian. Readability formulas for English were used as guidelines. The novelty was the use of eye movement tracking during reading to obtain quantitative data that lead to readability formula. Eye fixation durations were gathered during readability measurements. Average values of fixation durations were calculated to characterize texts and readers. 15 texts with various difficulty levels were composed for exposing them to readers. This paper focuses on the use of evaluation criteria and rubrics as tools for training in an audiovisual translation mode: subtitling for the D/deaf and the hard of hearing (SDH). Following an introduction to the current conception of and research carried out on quality assurance and assessment both in the translation industry and academia, a brief overview of the assessment processes and instruments used in SDH university training and in the professional sector is provided. This is followed by a case study of SDH assessment practices in Spain. Deliberation favours social efficiency by making people disregard their relative shares: evidence from USA and India

Groups make decisions on both the production and the distribution of resources. These decisions typically involve a tension between increasing the total level of group resources (i.e. social efficiency) and distributing these resources among group members (i.e. individuals' relative shares). This is the case because the redistribution process may destroy part of the resources, thus resulting in socially inefficient allocations. Here we apply a dual-process approach to understand the cognitive underpinnings of this fundamental tension. In this work we propose the use of Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) Recurrent Neural Networks for multivariate time series of satellite data for crop yield estimation. Recurrent nets allow exploiting the temporal dimension efficiently, but interpretability is hampered by the typically overparameterized models. Toward a real-time tracking of dense point-sampled geometry

We propose an intuitive and efficient resolution to the point matching problem within two frames of a sequence.
