Synthesis of C3/C1-Substituted Tetrahydroisoquinolines

2015

A broad biological screening of the natural alkaloid N-methylisosalsoline (2) extracted from Hammada scoparia leaves against a panel of human and parasitic proteases revealed an interesting activity profile of 2 towards human 20S proteasome. This outcome suggests that the 1,2,3,4-tetrahydroisoquinoline skeleton may be exploited as a template for the development of novel anticancer agents. In this article, we report the synthesis and chemical characterization of a new series of isosalsoline-type alkaloids (10-11) with variations at N2 and C3 positions with respect to the natural Compound 2, obtained by a synthetic strategy that involves the Bischler-Napieralski cyclization. The substrate for…

Proton-Induced Multiple Changes of the Absorption and Fluorescence Spectra of Amino-Aza-Oligo(Phenylenevinylene)s

2008

Fluorescent dyes with a high sensitivity of their optical spectra towards changes of the environment were prepared via aldol condensation or Horner olefinations. The main chromophore is a quadrupolar N-substituted 1,4-distyrylbenzene which allows protonation and complexation at various positions resulting in a series of different and significant changes of the optical spectra. The sensitivity of the absorption and emission spectra on solvent polarity, acid, and cations is reported.

Synthesis of 6,12-Disubstituted Methanodibenzo[

2019

The preparation of unprecedented 6,12-disubstituted methanodibenzo[b,f][1,5]dioxocins from pyrrolidine catalyzed self-condensation of 2′-hydroxyacetophenones is herein described. This method provides easy access to this highly bridged complex core, resulting in construction of two C–O and two C–C bonds, a methylene bridge and two quaternary centers in a single step. The intricate methanodibenzo[b,f][1,5]dioxocin compounds were obtained in up to moderate yields after optimization of the reaction conditions concerning solvent, reaction times and the use of additives. Several halide substituted methanodibenzo[b,f][1,5]dioxocins could be prepared from correspondent 2′-hydroxyacetophenones.

Thermodynamic, dynamic and transport properties of quantum spin liquid in herbertsmithite from experimental and theoretical point of view

2019

In our review we focus on the quantum spin liquid, defining the thermodynamic, transport and relaxation properties of geometrically frustrated magnets (insulators) represented by herbertsmithite $\rm ZnCu_{3}(OH)_6Cl_2$.

Violation of the Time-Reversal and Particle-Hole Symmetries in Strongly Correlated Fermi Systems: A Review

2020

In this review, we consider the time reversal T and particle-antiparticle C symmetries that, being most fundamental, can be violated at microscopic level by a weak interaction. The notable example here is from condensed matter, where strongly correlated Fermi systems like heavy-fermion metals and high Tc superconductors exhibit C and T symmetries violation due to so-called non-Fermi liquid (NFL) behavior. In these systems, tunneling differential conductivity (or resistivity) is a very sensitive tool to experimentally test the above symmetry break. When a strongly correlated Fermi system turns out to be near the topological fermion condensation quantum phase transition (FCQPT), it exhibits t…

Inverse magnetic catalysis in nonlocal chiral quark models

2018

We study the behavior of strongly interacting matter under an external magnetic field in the context of nonlocal Polyakov-Nambu-Jona-Lasinio (PNJL) -like models. We find that at zero temperature the condensates display the well-known Magnetic Catalysis effect, showing a good quantitative agreement with lattice QCD results. Moreover, when extended to finite temperature we find that the Inverse Magnetic Catalysis effect is naturally incorporated.

Shock phenomena in baryonless strongly interacting matter.

1987

Shock phenomena associated with the quark-to-hadron matter phase transition are studied using the concept of adiabats. To allow for an analysis of a medium with vanishing baryon density, the shock and Poisson adiabats are formulated in terms of hydrodynamic fluxes, rather than only thermodynamic variables. The bag-model equation of state is used to describe the phase transition. It is shown that deflagrations from the quark phase above the critical temperature and strong detonations from the supercooled quark phase to the superheated hadron phase are unlikely. Instead the possibility of weak condensation detonations from the supercooled quark phase to a mixed phase is indicated. Strong deto…

Synthesis of refractory metal nuggets and constraints on the thermal histories of nugget-bearing Ca, Al-rich inclusions

2015

Tiny refractory metal nuggets are mainly observed inside Ca, Al-rich inclusions (CAIs) from chondritic meteorites and are commonly assumed to be condensates from a solar composition gas. However, recent detailed studies of metal nugget compositions and their comparison with predictions from condensation show that the observed abundance patterns are extremely difficult to achieve in this way. As a test for the proposed alternative, precipitation from a silicate liquid, we conducted melting experiments, in which nine different refractory metals (nugget components) were equilibrated with each other along with a CAI-like liquid at reducing conditions. When quenched, minerals similar to those in…

Rotation of methyl radicals in molecular solids.

2010

Electron spin resonance (ESR) measurements were carried out to study the rotation of methyl radicals (CH(3)) in solid carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide, and nitrogen matrices. The radicals were produced by dissociating methane by plasma bursts generated by a focused 193 nm ArF excimer laser radiation during the gas condensation on the substrate. The ESR spectra exhibit anisotropic features that persist over the temperature range examined, and in most cases this indicates a restriction of rotation about the C(2) symmetry axis. A nonrotating CH(3) was also observed in a CO(2) matrix. The intensity ratio between the symmetric (A) and antisymmetric (E) nuclear spin states was recorded as a functi…
