Lateral reorganization of plasma membrane is involved in the yeast resistance to severe dehydration

International audience; In this study, we investigated the kinetic and the magnitude of dehydrations on yeast plasma membrane (PM) modifications because this parameter is crucial to cell survival. Functional (permeability) and structural (morphology, ultrastructure, and distribution of the protein Sur7-GFP contained in sterol-rich membrane microdomains) PM modifications were investigated by confocal and electron microscopy after progressive (non-lethal) and rapid (lethal) hyperosmotic perturbations. Macroporous Scaffolds Based on Chitosan and Bioactive Molecules†

Chitosan-based macroporous scaffolds for tissue engineering applications are developed by cryogelation in aqueous media. The cryogels obtained are modified using a new RGD-containing peptide developed in this laboratory. A RGD-containing peptide is chemically attached to the surface of the cryogels to improve cell adhesion to the 3D-structure chitosan-based scaffolds. The synthesis, physico-chemical, and biological evaluations of the system are described, and the optimization of the formulations is carried out by varying the reaction parameters. Semiconductor nanocrystals, known as quantum dots (QDs) display well-tuned emission spectra from ultraviolet to the infrared region. Their photostability is greatly enhanced compared to fluorophores making them suitable for optical bio-imaging. A New Species of the Genus Crenubiotus (Tardigrada: Eutardigrada: Adorybiotidae) from Salt Spring Island, Strait of Georgia, British Columbia (Canada)

Currently, the recently erected genus Crenubiotus (Adorybiotidae, Macrobiotoidea) includes only three species, all of which are characterised by dentate lunulae and cuticular tubercules organised in the band in the dorso-caudal part of the body. By means of integrative taxonomy, we describe a fourth species of the genus: Crenubiotus salishani sp. nov., from Salt Spring Island in British Columbia, Canada. Cleaning stone tool surfaces is a common procedure in lithic studies. The first step widely applied at any archeological site (and/or at field laboratories) is the gross removal of sediment from the surfaces of artifacts. Lithic surface alterations due to mechanical action applied in wet or dry cleaning regimes have never been examined at a microscopic scale. Agonist and antagonist-dependent internalization of the human vasopressin V2 receptor.

Abstract In this report we demonstrate that in HEK293 cells stably expressing the human V2vasopressin receptor, ligand-induced internalization of the hormone receptor occurs via the clathrin-dependent pathway. Studies of receptor trafficking either by direct visualization of the V2receptor by confocal microscopy or binding experiments show a rapid internalization (half-time 6–7 min). Blocking of the clathrin-dependent pathway by hypertonic sucrose increased vasopressin-induced cellular cAMP production and decreased the desensitization of the V2receptor–adenylyl cyclase system.
