A shifting yet grounded transnational social field: Interplays of displacement and emplacement in African migrant trajectories across Central America

In this article, we draw on the volatile complexity of African migrant trajectories in Central America to broaden the scope of transnational scholarship. These trajectories are characterised by mobilities as well as immobilities, taking shape in particular local contexts. By focusing on the interplays between displacement and emplacement that are part of these trajectories, we aim to increase our understanding of the extent to which migrants still ‘on the move’ experience both temporal embeddedness and cross-border connectedness, thereby acknowledging and unravelling transnational lives as they ‘touch the ground’ en route. Abstract In this paper we compute an aggregate index of risk aversion and indices of vulnerability and the contribution to systemic risk aversion for five European countries. The variance risk premium proxies risk aversion. The contribution to the literature is twofold. First, this is the first study estimating not only the common component, but also indices of directional connectedness among variance risk premia. Abstract We studied the spatial connectedness of Natura 2000 site boundaries and the functional connectivity of the Natura 2000 network across the 34 terrestrial borders of the European Union. Connectivity was measured by the dispersal success of 192 reptile, amphibian, invertebrate and plant species from Annex II of the European Union Habitats Directive, based on the presence of same species on both sides of the borders. Orientation-Dependent Handedness of Chiral Plasmons on Nanosphere Dimers: How to Turn a Right Hand into a Left Hand

Optical activity, which is used as a discriminator of chiral enantiomers, is demonstrated to be orientation dependent on individual, and nominally achiral, plasmonic nanosphere dimers. Through measurements of their giant Raman optical activity, we demonstrate that L/R-handed enantiomers can be continuously turned into their R/L-handed mirror images without passing through an achiral state. The primitive uniaxial multipolar response, with demonstrable broken parity and time reversal symmetry, reproduces the observations as resonant Raman scattering on plasmons that carry angular momentum. The satisfaction of the need to belong reflects in the sense of being an integrative part of the group or social system. There is some lack of empirical evidence for the structure of this sense at the macro level. This study assessed a two-dimensional model of the sense of belonging to the country, which included relational and spatiotemporal components.
