Internal Fixation in Postpartum Symphysis Pubis Rupture: Report of Three Cases

We present three patients with postpartum symphysis pubis rupture whose severe complaints persisted after conservative treatment. All three ruptures were stabilized with open reduction and internal fixation. There were no postoperative problems, and implants were removed after a mean period of six months. Patients were free of complaints after implant removal. In select cases, operative treatment of postpartum symphysiolysis may be indicated.

Abstract OBJECTIVES: To evaluate a highly selected population of patients affected by T1G3 bladder transitional cell carcinoma (TCCB) treated by transurethral resection (TUR) and adjuvant intravesical chemotherapy. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Between January 1976 and April 1999, 137 patients with T1G3 TCCB were treated by TUR plus intravesical chemotherapy. Particularly, a sequential combination of mitomycin C (MMC) and epirubicin (EPI) was adopted in 91 patients (66.4%). The main exclusion criteria were concomitant or previous Tis, previous T1G3 TCCB, tumor size greater than 3 centimeters and number of tumors more than 3. Conservative treatment of initial breast cancer

The results of conservative surgical techniques (quadrantectomy or tumorectomy), axillary dissection and radiotherapy in 58 patients with initial breast cancer (Tt No, Mo) treated between June 1979 and December 1986 are reported. The disease-free survival rates after 5 and 8 years were 84% and 76% respectively. Four cases developed local recurrences (6.9%); 2 cases developed distant metastases involving lung and bone, and 1 case developed bone metastases without local recurrence. Two patients with local recurrence underwent radical life-saving mastectomy and are now free from disease.

Immunohistochemical Investigation in Experimental Intracerebral Hemorrhage (ICH) and Its Correlation with Findings in Clinical Studies

Since McKissock et al. 1961 investigated the effects of surgical and conservative treatment of ICH on final outcome it is well known that systemic hypertension worsens the prognosis of this serious cerebrovascular disease. Our own studies on this problem have revealed differences in final outcome, as well as in level of consciousness after ICH, between normotensive and hypertensive patients. Whilst 30.6% of the normotensive patients died, 48.1% of the hypertensive patients had a lethal outcome.

Neuronal intestinal dysplasia

Findings in 23 children with neuronal intestinal dysplasia (NID) are presented. Twelve children had Hirschsprung's disease that masked the existence of proximal NID. In all cases the diagnosis was established by histological-histochemical examination. Amelioration of symptoms by conservative treatment alone was achieved in 4 children; in 13 cases colostomy was necessary. In 6 patients colon resection was performed: 2 suffered from both colitis and obstruction; the other 4 were treated for obstruction, multiple perforations, persistant adynamia of the left colon, and fistulation. Encapsulating peritoneal sclerosis (EPS) is a rare clinical syndrome characterized by an acquired, inflammatory fibrocollagenous membrane encasing the small intestine, resulting in symptoms of bowel obstruction.
