Evaluation and management of hemorrhoids: Italian society of colorectal surgery (SICCR) consensus statement

2020

Hemorrhoidal disease (HD) is the most common proctological disease in the Western countries. However, its real prevalence is underestimated due to the frequent self-medication. The aim of this consensus statement is to provide evidence-based data to allow an individualized and appropriate management and treatment of HD. The strategy used to search for evidence was based on application of electronic sources such as MEDLINE, PubMed, Cochrane Review Library, CINAHL, and EMBASE. These guidelines are inclusive and not prescriptive. The recommendations were defined and graded based on the current levels of evidence and in accordance with the criteria adopted by American College of Chest Physician…

The association between appendicitis severity and patient age with appendiceal neoplasm histology—a population-based study

2022

Abstract Purpose Recent studies have reported alarming appendiceal tumor rates associated with complicated acute appendicitis, especially in patients presenting with a periappendicular abscess. However, the data on histology of appendiceal tumors among acute appendicitis patients is limited, especially in patient cohorts differentiating between uncomplicated and complicated acute appendicitis. We have previously reported the association of increased appendiceal tumor prevalence with complicated acute appendicitis in this population-based study. The objective of this secondary analysis was to evaluate the association of both appendicitis severity and patient age with appendiceal tumor histol…

Survival risk factors in T1G3 non-muscle-invasive (NMI) bladder cancer consevatively treated. Long term results.

2008

Introduction: The most relevant risk factor in T1G3 NMI transitional cell carcinoma of the bladder (TCCB) is the presence of Tis. The long term results of conservative management still are a matter of controversy. The role of BCG in preventing progression and death in this category of NMI TCCB is not definitely proved. The published experiences of conservative treatment of high risk TCCB often include unselected patients, small numbers and short follow-up. Immediate radical cystectomy is advocated by many urologists. Objectives: The aim of the study is to identify the survival risk factors in 236 selected patients conservatively treated. Methods: Between January 1976 and December 2005, 236 …

Use of conservative therapy before and after surgery for carpal tunnel syndrome

2021

Abstract Background Conservative therapies are typically offered to individuals who experience mild or intermittent symptoms of carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS) or postoperatively to subjects who have undergone carpal tunnel release. Although long-term studies report mostly positive results for carpal tunnel release, knowledge on the need for conservative treatments following surgery is scarce. The aim of this retrospective cohort study was to examine the use of conservative therapies before and after carpal tunnel releasing surgery. Methods Of 528 patients who underwent carpal tunnel release surgery in the study hospital during the study period, 259 provided sufficiently completed questionnair…

Application of various physiotherapeutic methods in a conservative treatment of neurogenic scoliosis in a comatose patient - a case report

2017

Opis prz…

Conservative Management of Atypical Endometrial Hyperplasia and Early Endometrial Cancer in Childbearing Age Women.

2022

Total hysterectomy and bilateral adnexectomy is the standard treatment for atypical endometrial hyperplasia and early-stage endometrial cancer. However, the recommended surgical treatment precludes future pregnancy when these conditions are diagnosed in women in their fertile age. In these patients, fertility-sparing treatment may be feasible if the desire for childbearing is consistent and specific conditions are present. This review summarizes the available evidence on fertility-sparing management for atypical endometrial hyperplasia and early-stage endometrial cancer. Historically, oral progestins have been the mainstay of conservative management for atypical endometrial hyperplasia and …

Effect of two different tooth bleaching techniques on microhardness of giomer

2016

Background Tooth bleaching is a safe and conservative treatment modality to improve the esthetic appearance of discolored teeth. One of the problems with the use of bleaching agents is their possible effect on surface microhardness of resin-based materials. The present study was carried out to evaluate the effect of in-office and at-home bleaching on surface microhardness of giomer. Material and Methods Seventy-five disk-shaped giomer samples (Beautifil II) were prepared and cured with a light-curing unit. The samples were randomly assigned to three groups (n=25). In group 1 (control), the samples were stored in distilled water for 14 days. The samples in groups 2 and 3 underwent a bleachin…

Current Concepts in Therapy of Chronic Rhinosinusitis and Nasal Polyposis

2004

The exact pathophysiological mechanisms leading to chronic rhinosinusitis (CRS) still to a large extent remain obscure. However, recently there has been some progress in elucidating the etiology of nasal polyposis, especially regarding tissue eosinophilia as well as the role of aspirin intolerance and eicosanoid mediators. Endonasal sinus surgery has evolved to be the treatment of choice in CRS and nasal polyposis in all cases where conservative treatment has failed or resulted in only a partial or temporary relief. Today, state of the art in surgical technique includes the ability to combine microscopic and endoscopic procedures. Regardless of technical advances like powered instrumentatio…

T1HG Bladder Tumours: So Many Papers, Do We Need Them? Yes, We Do!

2009

“How many roads a man must walk on….” and how many papers we must read and write… to put down the final word on the appropriate management of high risk NMI-BC. Although it is more than 20 years that we take notice of promises on biological markers predictive of the behaviour of NMI-BC, till today we can only base our decisions on clinical and pathological data. Consequently, we need exchange of experiences and reports on the outcome of these patients. The aim of the treatment of T1 bladder tumours is to minimize mortality while assuring reduced morbidity and good quality of life. A conservative approach is, obviously, not applicable to all T1HG tumours. We need to identify unequivocal selec…
