CLEARMiner: a new algorithm for mining association patterns on heterogeneous time series from climate data
2010
International audience; Recently, improvements in sensor technology contributed to increasing in spatial data acquisition. The use of remote sensing in many countries and states, where agricultural business is a large part of their gross income, can provide a valuable source to improve their economy. The combination of climate and remote sensing data can reveal useful information, which can help researchers to monitor and estimate the production of agricultural crops. Data mining techniques are the main tools to analyze and extract relationships and patterns. In this context, this paper presents a new algorithm for mining association patterns in Geo-referenced databases of climate and satel…
Towards a methodology for semantic and context-aware mobile learning
2013
International audience; Internet and mobile devices open the way towards mobile learning (m-learning), offering new opportunities to extend learning beyond the traditional teacher-led classroom. M-learning is not only any form of teaching or studying that takes place when the user interacts with a mobile device. It is more than just using a mobile device to access resources and communicate with others. It should take account of the constant mobile situation of the learner. The challenge here is to exploit this continually changing situation with a system that can dynamically recognize and adapt educational resources and services to the "context" in which the learner operates (localization, …
Extensions of the witness method to characterize under-, over- and well-constrained geometric constraint systems
2011
International audience; This paper describes new ways to tackle several important problems encountered in geometric constraint solving, in the context of CAD, and which are linked to the handling of under- and over-constrained systems. It presents a powerful decomposition algorithm of such systems. Our methods are based on the witness principle whose theoretical background is recalled in a first step. A method to generate a witness is then explained. We show that having a witness can be used to incrementally detect over-constrainedness and thus to compute a well-constrained boundary system. An algorithm is introduced to check if anchoring a given subset of the coordinates brings the number …
The Hierarchical Agglomerative Clustering with Gower index: a methodology for automatic design of OLAP cube in ecological data processing context
2015
In Press, Corrected Proof; International audience; The OLAP systems can be an improvement for ecological studies. In fact, ecology studies, follows and analyzes phenomenon across space and time and according to several parameters. OLAP systems can provide to ecologists browsing in a large dataset. One focus of the current research on OLAP system is the automatic design of OLAP cubes and of data warehouse schemas. This kind of works makes accessible OLAP technology to non information technology experts. But to be efficient, the automatic OLAP building must take into account various cases. Moreover the OLAP technology is based on the concept of hierarchy. Thereby the hierarchical clustering m…
Region-based segmentation on depth images from a 3D reference surface for tree species recognition.
2013
International audience; The aim of the work presented in this paper is to develop a method for the automatic identification of tree species using Terrestrial Light Detection and Ranging (T-LiDAR) data. The approach that we propose analyses depth images built from 3D point clouds corresponding to a 30 cm segment of the tree trunk in order to extract characteristic shape features used for classifying the different tree species using the Random Forest classifier. We will present the method used to transform the 3D point cloud to a depth image and the region based segmentation method used to segment the depth images before shape features are computed on the segmented images. Our approach has be…
Parameter-free adaptive step-size multiobjective optimization applied to remote photoplethysmography
2018
International audience; In this work, we propose to reformulate the objective function of Independent Component Analysis (ICA) to make it a better posed problem in the context of Remote photoplethysmography (rPPG). In recent previous works, linear combination coefficients of RGB channels are estimated maximizing the non-Gaussianity of ICA output components. However, in the context of rPPG a priori knowledge of the pulse signal can be incorporated into the component extraction algorithm. To this end, the contrast function of regular ICA is extended with a measure of periodicity formulated using autocorrelation. This novel semi-blind source extraction method for measuring rPPG has the interes…
A predictive approach for a real-time remote visualization of large meshes
2012
Déjà sur HAL; Remote access to large meshes is the subject of studies since several years. We propose in this paper a contribution to the problem of remote mesh viewing. We work on triangular meshes. After a study of existing methods of remote viewing, we propose a visualization approach based on a client-server architecture, in which almost all operations are performed on the server. Our approach includes three main steps: a first step of partitioning the original mesh, generating several fragments of the original mesh that can be supported by the supposed smaller Transfer Control Protocol (TCP) window size of the network, a second step called pre-simplification of the mesh partitioned, ge…
A Context-Based Adaptation In Mobile Learning
2013
International audience; Recent developments on mobile devices and wireless technologies enable new technical capabilities for the learning domain. Nowadays, learners are able to learn anywhere and at any time. The dynamic and continually changing learning setting in learner's mobile environment gives rise to many different learning contexts. The challenge in context-aware mobile learning is to develop an approach building the best learning content according to dynamic learning situations. This paper aims to develop an adaptive system based on the semantic modeling of the learning content and the learning context. The behavioral part of this approach is made up of rules and metaheuristics to…
Speed-accuracy trade-off and its consequences in a scramble competition context.
2014
Abstract: Animals foraging in groups commonly respond to the presence of others by increasing their foraging rate, an increase that could come at the expense of prey detection accuracy. Yet the existence and consequences of such so-called 'speed-accuracy trade-offs' in group-foraging animals remain unexplored. We used group-feeding zebra finches, Taeniopygia guttata, to determine how search speed affects food detection accuracy and how a potential speed-accuracy trade-off influences feeding success. We found significant between-individual differences in hopping speed as well as evidence that faster individuals were more likely to overlook food, demonstrating the existence of a trade-off bet…
