Add-On Effect of Postural Instructions to Abdominopelvic Exercise on Urinary Symptoms and Quality of Life in Climacteric Women with Stress Urinary In…

2021

The aim of this study was to investigate the add-on effect of postural instructions to an abdominopelvic exercise program on incontinence urinary symptoms (UI symptoms) and quality of life (QoL) in climacteric women with stress urinary incontinence (SUI). A randomized controlled trial was performed with a total of 40 climacteric women with SUI aged between 46 and 75 years old. Participants were randomly assigned to two groups: a group performing an abdominopelvic exercise program (AEP) (n = 20) and a group performing abdominopelvic exercise with the addition of postural instructions (AEPPI) (n = 20). Primary outcome measures were UI symptoms, UI impact and QoL related to UI (UI-QoL), measur…

Percutaneous Tibial Nerve Stimulation for Treatment of Idiopathic Faecal Incontinence: Mid-term Results from a Single Center

2016

Abstract Objective: Percutaneous tibial nerve stimulation is a recent and minimally invasive treatment for faecal incontinence (FI). The aim of this study is to evaluate the mid-term results in patients with idiopathic faecal incontinence (IFI). Methods: Fifty one patients (42 female and 9 male) were prospectively recruited. Patients were treated twice a week for 6 weeks as per study protocol. We have assessed the degree of fecal incontinence using the Cleveland Clinic faecal incontinence (CCF-FI) score at baseline, at 6 weeks, at 6 months and at 1 year. Also the anorectal manometric data (mean resting pressure (MRP), squeeze pressure (SP) and, rectal sensation) at baseline, at 6 weeks and …

Quality Analysis of YouTube Videos Presenting Pelvic Floor Exercises after Prostatectomy Surgery

2021

Background: Prostate cancer (PC) is a major cause of disease and mortality among men. Surgical treatment involving the removal of the prostate may result in temporary or permanent erectile dysfunction (ED) and urinary incontinence (UI), with considerable impact on quality of life. Pelvic floor muscle training (PFMT) is one of the recommended techniques for the prevention, treatment, and rehabilitation of postoperative complications. The aim of this observational study was to assess the quality of YouTube videos—accessible to any patient—related to exercises after prostatectomy surgery. Methods: A systematic search was performed on YouTube on 24 September 2020. One hundred and fifty videos w…

Targeting Moderate and Severe Male Stress Urinary Incontinence With Adjustable Male Slings and the Perineal Artificial Urinary Sphincter: Focus on Pe…

2017

Purpose: To analyze perioperative complications and postoperative explantation rates for selected readjustable male sling systems and the perineal single-cuff artificial urinary sphincter (AUS) in a large, contemporary, multi-institutional patient cohort. Methods: Two hundred eighty-two male patients who underwent implantation between 2010 and 2012 in 13 participating institutions were included in the study (n = 127 adjustable male sling [n = 95 Argus classic, n = 32 Argus T], n = 155 AUS). Perioperative characteristics and postoperative complications were analyzed. The explantation rates of the respective devices were assessed using the Fisher exact test and the Mann-Whitney U-test. Long-term evolution of continence and quality of life after sphincteroplasty for obstetric fecal incontinence

2022

Purpose: This study was performed to evaluate the long-term evolution of continence and patient’s quality of life after surgical treatment for obstetric fecal incontinence. Methods: A prospective longitudinal study was conducted including consecutive patients who underwent sphincteroplasty for severe obstetric fecal incontinence. The first phase analyzed changes in continence and impact on quality of life. The second phase studied the long-term evolution reevaluating the same group of patients 6 years later. Degree of fecal incontinence was calculated using the Cleveland Clinic Score (CCS). Quality of life assessment was carried out with the Fecal Incontinence Quality of Life scale. Results: …

Correlation between fecal incontinence and quality of life after low anterior resection for rectal cancer

2014

SUMMARY Aim: The purpose of this study was to investigate the correlation between fecal incontinence and quality of life after low anterior resection and long-term follow-up. Methods: For 72 patients with coloanal or low colorectal anastomosis, the quality of life was determined by the European Organisation for Research and Treatment of Cancer (EORTC) questionnaires C-30 and CR-38. The Vaizey score was used for assessment of fecal incontinence. Results: The risk of fecal incontinence significantly increased with a lower level of anastomosis (p < 0.001). The QLQ CR-38 did not discern differences between patients. The OLQ C-30 only found significantly worse social and role function in pat…

The impact of perioperative complications on favorable outcomes after artificial urinary sphincter implantation for post-prostatectomy incontinence

2020

ABSTRACT Objective To investigate the effect of perioperative complications involving artificial urinary sphincter (AUS) implantation on rates of explantation and continence as well as health-related quality of life (HRQOL). Materials and methods Inclusion criteria encompassed non-neurogenic, moderate-to-severe stress urinary incontinence (SUI) post radical prostatectomy and primary implantation of an AUS performed by a high-volume surgeon (>100 previous implantations). Reporting complications followed the validated Clavien-Dindo scale and Martin criteria. HRQOL was assessed by the validated IQOL score, continence by the validated ICIQ-SF score. Statistical analysis included Chi (2) test, M…

Remeex® System Effectiveness in Male Patients with Stress Urinary Incontinence

2021

Background: When conservative management fails, patients with stress urinary incontinence (SUI) are considered for surgical treatment. Simpler, more economical and less invasive surgical techniques, such as the Remeex® system, have been developed. Objectives: To analyze the objective effectiveness of the Remeex® system in the treatment of male stress urinary incontinence. To study survival and complication rates of the Remeex® system in male SUI patients. Materials and methods: Prospective observational study between July 2015 and May 2020. Group A (n = 7

Feasibility and acceptability of the pelvic floor muscle and bladder training programme

2008

Pelvic floor muscle training (PFMT) is the most commonly used physical therapy treatment for urinary incontinence, and it is more effective when combined with bladder training (BT) than alone. However, to our knowledge, there are no earlier intervention studies of the user feasibility and acceptability of the pelvic floor muscle and BT programme. The aim of this study was to pilot test the feasibility and acceptability and follow the compliance of the 8-week pelvic floor muscle and BT programme. Pre–post intervention study among 11 community-dwelling women born in 1936 with self-reported urinary incontinence and without current PFMT was practised. Primary outcomes were the feasibility, acce…
