INNOVAZIONE DEI MATERIALI NATURALI: TERRA E NANOTUBI DI ARGILLA PER UNA SFIDA SOSTENIBILE
2019
The Hints from the Crowd Project
2013
Can the crowd be a source of information? Is it possible to receive useful hints from comments, blogs and product reviews? In the era of Web 2.0, people are allowed to give their opinion about everything such as movies, hotels, etc.. These reviews are social knowledge, that can be exploited to suggest possibly interesting items to other people. The goal of the Hints From the Crowd HFC project is to build a NoSQL database system for large collections of product reviews; the database is queried by expressing a natural language sentence; the result is a list of products ranked based on the relevance of reviews w.r.t. the natural language sentence. The best ranked products in the result list ca…

Tres artistas en el exilio: Max Aub, Félix Candela y Josep Renau
2020
Three artists in exile focuses on the historical diaspora provoked by the Spanish civil war (1936- 1939), and how it influenced three prominent figures of the cultural scene of that period: the writer and typographer Max Aub Mohrenwitz (Paris, 1903-Ciudad de Mexico, 1972); the architect Félix Candela Outeriño (Madrid, 1910-Raleigh, US, 1977); and the artist Josep Renau Berenguer (Valencia, 1907-Berlín, 1982). They are the three protagonists of this article, who were simultaneously living in Mexico during the exile and who made notable contributions in the fields of arts and humanities (Max Aub), architecture (Félix Candela), and graphic design and photomontage (Josep Renau). While they were…
Arm swing during skating at different skiing speeds affects skiing mechanics and performance
2018
Arm swing has been shown to lead to greater maximal speed and movement economy in cross -country skiing. The current study aimed to investigate how arm swing alters skiing mechanics and contributes to performance and acceleration of the athlete’s centre of mass (COM). While skiing on snow seven highly skilled cross -country skiers simulated V2 -alternate skating without using ski poles and with double or single arm swing and without arm swing . During leg push -off the linear momentum of the body increased due to arm swing. Simultaneously, linear momentum of the arm(s) decreased in arm swing trials, indicating a transfer of momentum from arms to the rest of the body and being more prevalent…
On the calculation of free energy of mixing for aqueous polymer solutions with group-contribution models
2010
Abstract Liquid–liquid phase separation processes are currently used as a route to prepare polymeric porous structures for various applications (membranes and scaffolds for tissue engineering). In membrane and foam fabrication technologies, binary and mainly ternary polymer solutions are used. Membrane morphology is strongly affected by phase equilibria of processing solution. In order to achieve a better control of membrane morphology and to explore a wide quantity of solvents, a predictive tool addressing experimentals would be strongly advisable. In this paper, group contribution models were chosen to test the applicability on a PLLA–dioxane–water ternary polymer solution, whose experime…
