Personal Social Networks of Community-Dwelling Oldest Old During the Covid-19 Pandemic—A Qualitative Study
2021
The COVID-19 pandemic and its related restrictions have affected the everyday life of older people. Advanced age is a significant predisposing factor for a more severe COVID-19 infection, increasing the risk for hospitalization and mortality. Even though restrictions have been, thus, well-grounded, they may also have had detrimental effects on the social well-being of older people. Personal networks and social activity are known protective factors against the premature decline in health and functioning, and it is widely acknowledged that social isolation increases feelings of loneliness, poor quality of life, and even the risk for diseases and disabilities among older adults. This qualitati…
Wpływ zaangażowania w opiekę nad wnukami na poziom poczucia jakości życia dziadków
2018
Contemporary grandparents are active people, not only in the social but also professional fi eld. Regardless of other duties, one of the socially assigned tasks in the role of grandparent is to take care for grandchildren. As various studies have reported, this task may bring caregivers more losses than benefits (eg Goodman & Silverstein, 2002). In the present study, data from 148 people over 57 years who have looked after grandchildren have been analyzed, to determine whether the amount of time devoted by grandparents to care for grandchildren will affect their sense of quality of life. Grandparents gender, age, and locus of control was controlled. The obtained results confirmed that with …
Interaction of physical activity, diet, health locus of control and quality of life among Finnish university students
2013
Muhammad Tayyab Minhas, 2013. Interaction of Physical Activity, Diet, Health Locus of Control and Quality of Life among Finnish University Students. Master’s Thesis in Sport and Exercise Psychology. Department of Sport Sciences, University of Jyväskylä, Finland. Literature shows that particular lifestyle modifiable behaviours, like physical activity, diet, are risk factors for the development of many diseases in adulthood. These behaviours are affected by personal psychological characteristics, like health locus of control and at the same time they affect peoples’ perceived quality of life. Transition to university is an important phase in a student’s life. Students’ environment and social …
Rationale and design of the DARWIN-T2D (DApagliflozin Real World evIdeNce in Type 2 Diabetes): A multicenter retrospective nationwide Italian study a…
2017
Background Randomized controlled trials (RCTs) in the field of diabetes have limitations inherent to the fact that design, setting, and patient characteristics may be poorly transferrable to clinical practice. Thus, evidence from studies using routinely accumulated clinical data are increasingly valued. Aims We herein describe rationale and design of the DARWIN-T2D (DApagliflozin Real World evIdeNce in Type 2 Diabetes), a multicenter retrospective nationwide study conducted at 50 specialist outpatient clinics in Italy and promoted by the Italian Diabetes Society. Data synthesis The primary objective of the study is to describe the baseline clinical characteristics (particularly HbA1c) of pa…
Chapter 5. Overcoming scepticism? Belief and moral responsibility
2006
Eating behavior dimensions and 9-year weight loss maintenance : a sub-study of the Finnish Diabetes prevention study
2023
Abstract Background Behavioral processes through which lifestyle interventions influence risk factors for type 2 diabetes (T2DM), e.g., body weight, are not well-understood. We examined whether changes in psychological dimensions of eating behavior during the first year of lifestyle intervention would mediate the effects of intervention on body weight during a 9-year period. Methods Middle-aged participants (38 men, 60 women) with overweight and impaired glucose tolerance (IGT) were randomized to an intensive, individualized lifestyle intervention group (n = 51) or a control group (n = 47). At baseline and annually thereafter until nine years body weight was measured and the Three Factor Ea…

Spunti per il dibattito sul Regolamento (UE) 2017/625: armonizzazione normativa e atti delegati
2018
In this work the Author examines the legislative technique used by the European Parliament in the regulation 625 of 2017 which entrusts the instrument of delegation with the integration of important parts of the same and highlights how this technique removes the European legislator from the aim pursued rationalization and simplification of the global regulatory framework by integrating the rules relating to official controls, currently located in specific sectors, in a single regulatory framework relating to official controls.
Acoustic wave guides as infinite-dimensional dynamical systems
2015
We prove the unique solvability, passivity/conservativity and some regularity results of two mathematical models for acoustic wave propagation in curved, variable diameter tubular structures of finite length. The first of the models is the generalised Webster's model that includes dissipation and curvature of the 1D waveguide. The second model is the scattering passive, boundary controlled wave equation on 3D waveguides. The two models are treated in an unified fashion so that the results on the wave equation reduce to the corresponding results of approximating Webster's model at the limit of vanishing waveguide intersection.
