A smart rotary technique versus conventional pulpectomy for primary teeth: A randomized controlled clinical study.

2017

Background Techniques with adequate accuracy of working length determination along with shorter duration of treatment in pulpectomy procedure seems to be essential in pediatric dentistry. The aim of the present study was to evaluate the accuracy of root canal length measurement with Root ZX II apex locator and rotary system in pulpectomy of primary teeth. Material and methods In this randomized control clinical trial complete pulpectomy was performed on 80 mandibular primary molars in 80, 4-6-year-old children. The study population was randomly divided into case and control groups. In control group conventional pulpectomy was performed and in the case group working length was determined by …

Diagnosis and management of AML in adults: 2017 ELN recommendations from an international expert panel

2017

Abstract The first edition of the European LeukemiaNet (ELN) recommendations for diagnosis and management of acute myeloid leukemia (AML) in adults, published in 2010, has found broad acceptance by physicians and investigators caring for patients with AML. Recent advances, for example, in the discovery of the genomic landscape of the disease, in the development of assays for genetic testing and for detecting minimal residual disease (MRD), as well as in the development of novel antileukemic agents, prompted an international panel to provide updated evidence- and expert opinion-based recommendations. The recommendations include a revised version of the ELN genetic categories, a proposal for …

Intraoral epithelioid hemangioendothelioma: a case report and review of the literature.

2009

The epithelioid hemangioendothelioma (EH) is an uncommon angiocentric neoplasm of borderline or intermediate malignant potential, between the hemangioma and conventional angiosarcoma. It is characterized by the proliferation of endothelial cells with epithelioid or histiocitóide morphology with vacuolated cytoplasm and occasional eosinophilic spindle cells. Shows potential for local recurrence as well as the ability to metastasize. Rarely affects the oral cavity, it have been described from 1975 until 2008 only 27 oral cases. Morphologically the EHs may be confused with other lesions, from a hemangioma to a squamous cell carcinoma, and thus immunohistochemical analysis is required. This pap…

Clinical use of intracoronary imaging. Part 1: guidance and optimization of coronary interventions. An expert consensus document of the European Asso…

2018

This Consensus Document is the first of two reports summarizing the views of an expert panel organized by the European Association of Percutaneous Cardiovascular Interventions (EAPCI) on the clinical use of intracoronary imaging including intravascular ultrasound (IVUS) and optical coherence tomography (OCT). The first document appraises the role of intracoronary imaging to guide percutaneous coronary interventions (PCIs) in clinical practice. Current evidence regarding the impact of intracoronary imaging guidance on cardiovascular outcomes is summarized, and patients or lesions most likely to derive clinical benefit from an imaging-guided intervention are identified. The relevance of the u…

Extraction of Phenolic Compounds from Fresh Apple Pomace by Different Non-Conventional Techniques

2021

Red Delicious apple pomace was produced at laboratory scale with a domestic blender and different non-conventional extraction techniques were performed to isolate phenolic compounds, such as ultrasound-assisted extraction (UAE), ultraturrax extraction (UTE), accelerated solvent extraction (ASE) and pulsed electric field (PEF) extraction pre-treatment. Total phenolic content (TPC) was determined by Folin–Ciocalteu assay. Phloridzin, the main phenolic compound in apples, was determined by chromatographic analysis Q-TOF-LC/MS. The results obtained with these techniques were compared in order to identify the most efficient method to recover polyphenols. The highest value of TPC (1062.92 ± 59.80…

Ocular angiogenesis: translating preclinical indications to successful clinical development

2004

Angiogenesis-related ocular diseases such as age-related macular degeneration (AMD) or diabetic retinopathy have a high socioeconomic impact in western countries and are the leading causes of blindness. Conventional treatment modalities for AMD are of limited success. Inhibition of new vessel formation and targeting of pathological vessels seem to be the best choice in AMD. A variety of animal models mimic the relevant aspects of choroidal neovascularisation (CNV) and allow for therapy screening. Preclinical and clinical studies show that a variety of different strategies are very promising. Stategies include inhibition or blocking of vascular endothelial growth factor, a key player in angi…

Paraconsistent logics, conventionalism and ontology

2004

Paraconsistent logics may be viewed as one of the last elements in a series of rapid developments in science in the 19th and early 20th c., triggered by the appearance of non-Euclidean geometries. The philosophy of conventionalism, which gave a metatheoretical framework to the basic changes involved, may also help in evaluating the truth import of (paraconsistent) logic and in determining its relation to ontology.

Innovative technologies for the recovery of phytochemicals from Stevia rebaudiana Bertoni leaves: A review.

2018

Stevia rebaudiana Bertoni has gained increased industrial and scientific interests in the last 20 years, representing a suitable nutritional alternative to sucrose and artificial sweeteners. Moreover, this plant contains polyphenols, chlorophylls, and carotenoids that may be extracted for production of nutraceuticals and functional foods. Because of nutritional and technological advantages over sucrose, innovative approaches for the extraction of highly valued compounds from Stevia leaves have been developed and optimized. In contrast to conventional alternatives, innovative extraction methods allow higher yields in a shorter time, less usage of organic solvents, and reduced energy consumpt…

Real-time low level feature extraction for on-board robot vision systems

2006

Robot vision systems notoriously require large computing capabilities, rarely available on physical devices. Robots have limited embedded hardware, and almost all sensory computation is delegated to remote machines. Emerging gigascale integration technologies offer the opportunity to explore alternative computing architectures that can deliver a significant boost to on-board computing when implemented in embedded, reconfigurable devices. This paper explores the mapping of low level feature extraction on one such architecture, the Georgia Tech SIMD Pixel Processor (SIMPil). The Fast Boundary Web Extraction (fBWE) algorithm is adapted and mapped on SIMPil as a fixed-point, data parallel imple…
