Zn(II)-alloferon complexes - Similar sequence, different coordination modes, no antibacterial activity.

2020

Often, in the search for a highly defined scientific phenomenon, a different one becomes apparent. This was also the case of this work, in the scope of which we planned to search for metal-enhanced, novel antibacterial/ antifungal compounds. Instead, we denied the existence of such and revealed the details of the bioinorganic chemistry of Zn(II)-alloferon complexes. Zinc(II) complexes of alloferon 1 and 2, ligands with a sequential difference of one amino acid only, show a substantially different coordination pattern at physiological pH. In the case of Zn(II)-alloferon 1 species, a histamine-like binding mode is observed (N-terminal amine and imidazole of His-1) and the coordination sphere …

Organoplatinum(II) Complexes Self-Assemble and Recognize AT-Rich Duplex DNA Sequences

2021

The specific recognition of AT-rich DNA sequences opens up the door to promising diagnostic and/or therapeutic strategies against gene-related diseases. Here, we demonstrate that amphiphilic PtII complexes of the type [Pt(dmba)(N∧N)]NO3 (dmba = N,N-dimethylbenzylamine-κN, κC; N∧N = dpq (3), dppz (4), and dppn (5)) recognize AT-rich oligonucleotides over other types of DNA, RNA, and model proteins. The crystal structure of 4 shows the presence of significant π-stacking interactions and a distorted coordination sphere of the d8 PtII atom. Complex 5, containing the largest π-conjugated ligand, forms supramolecular assemblies at high concentrations under aqueous environment. However, its aggreg…

[(Pyridylcarbonyl)pyridyl]triazolopyridines, Useful Ligands for the Construction of Polynuclear Coordination Compounds – Synthesis, Crystal Structure…

2007

A new tetranuclear cubane Cu4O4 complex has been synthesised from assembly of CuII ions and the polydentate ligand (pyridin-2-yl){6-([1,2,3]triazolo[1,5-a]pyridin-3-yl)pyridin-2-yl}methanone. Crystallographic analysis indicates that the Cu4O4 unit has an S4 symmetry. The magnetic properties have been analysed using the H = –2Σi,jJijSiSj spin Hamiltonian. Two distinct coupling constants, 2J1,3 = –37.4 cm–1 and 2J1,2 = –2.6 cm–1, obtained from the fitting of the experimental data have been rationalised on the basis of a density functional study of magnetostructural correlations in cubane complexes containing the Cu4O4 core. Reinforced cyclam derivatives functionalized on the bridging unit

2016

International audience; A new synthetic method has been developed for the preparation of reinforced cyclams (1,4,8,11-tetraazacyclotetradecane) C-functionalized on the bridging unit, by using a "one pot" reaction starting from the appropriate bis-aminal cyclam intermediate. The high reactivity of quaternized aminal moiety toward nucleophilic agent has been used to elaborate a new class of cross-bridged and side-bridged cyclam derivatives containing cyanide group on the ethylene bridge. Several chelators and corresponding copper(II) complexes have been prepared and characterized by X-ray diffraction. These new constrained polyazamacrocycles are valuable precursors of bifunctional chelating a…

Nanowire iron(III) coordination polymer based on 1,2,4-triazolo[1,5-a]pyrimidine and chloride ligands

2019

Abstract The neutral ligand 1,2,4-triazolo[1,5-a]pyrimidine (tp) has been employed to prepare a new coordination compound of Fe(III), [FeCl3(tp)2]n (1). Compound 1 was investigated by single crystal X-ray diffraction and found to be a coordination polymer forming a ladder structure based on metal–ligand interactions, while H-bonding and aromatic interactions contribute to the supramolecular self-assembly into a 3D nanostructured material. The polymeric assembly is retained also in solution, where a metallo-supramolecular polymer based on coordinative metal–ligand binding is present, as shown by dynamic light scattering (DLS) measurements. The redox properties of the Fe(III) coordination pol…

New insights on the electronic, magnetic, electric and molecular structure of a bis-(4-cyanopyridine) iron(III) complex with the meso-tetrakis(4-meth…

2019

International audience; We have successfully synthesized and characterized a new low-spin iron(III) bis(4-cyanopyridine) complex with a meso-porphyrin substituted in the para positions of the phenyls by the methoxy group, namely the bis(4-cyanopyridine)[(meso-tetrakis(4-metoxyphenylporphyrinato)]iron(III) trifluoromethanesulfonate chlorobenzene monosolvate complex with the formula [FeIII(TMPP)(4-CNpy)2]SO3CF3.C6H5Cl (I). This species was characterized through ultraviolet–visible, Fourier-transform infrared and Mössbauer spectroscopy as well as by SQUID magnetometry, cyclic voltammetry, and X-ray crystallography. These characterizations indicated that our synthetic heme model is a low-spin (…

Copper(II) complexes with 2,5-bis(2-pyridyl)pyrazine and 1,1,3,3-tetracyano-2-ethoxypropenide anion: Syntheses, crystal structures and magnetic prope…

2009

International audience; The copper(II) complexes of formula [Cu2(2,5-dpp)(H2O)4(CF3SO3)4] · 2H2O (1) and [Cu2(2,5-dpp)(H2O)2(tcnoet)4]n (2) [2,5-dpp = 2,5-bis(2-pyridyl)pyrazine and tcnoet− = 1,1,3,3-tetracyano-2-ethoxypropenide anion] have been prepared and their structures determined by X-ray crystallographic methods. Compound 1 is a dinuclear complex where the 2,5-dpp molecule acts as a bis-bidentate bridge between the two copper centers, the electroneutrality being achieved by four terminally bound triflate anions. Each copper(II) ion presents an elongated octahedral CuN2O4 environment with two nitrogen atoms from 2,5-dpp and two water molecules in the basal plane and two triflate-oxyge…

Biomimetic Mn-catalases based on dimeric manganese complexes in mesoporous silica for potential antioxidant agent

2015

Two new structural and functional models of the Mn-catalase with formula [{Mn(III)(bpy)(H2O)}(μ-2-MeOC6H4CO2)2(μ-O){Mn(III)(bpy)(X)}]X, where X = NO3 (1) and ClO4 (2) and bpy = 2,2'-bipyridine, were synthesized and characterized by X-ray diffraction. In both cases, a water molecule and an X ion occupy the monodentate positions. The magnetic properties of these compounds reveal a weak antiferromagnetic behavior (2J = -2.2 cm(-1) for 1 and -0.7 cm(-1) for 2, using the spin Hamiltonian H = -2J S1·S2) and negative zero-field splitting parameter DMn (-4.6 cm(-1) and -3.0 cm(-1) for 1 and 2, respectively). This fact, together with the nearly orthogonal orientation of the Jahn-Teller axes of the M…

DNA binding, nuclease activity, DNA photocleavage and cytotoxic properties of Cu(II) complexes of N-substituted sulfonamides.

2013

Abstract Ternary copper(II) complexes [Cu(NST)2(phen)] (1) and [Cu(NST)2(NH3)2]·H2O (2) [HNST = N-(4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)naphthalene-1-sulfonamide] were prepared and characterized by physico-chemical techniques. Both 1 and 2 were structurally characterized by X-ray crystallography. The crystal structures show the presence of a distorted square planar CuN4 geometry in which the deprotonated sulfonamide, acting as monodentate ligand, binds to the metal ion through the thiazole N atom. Both complexes present intermolecular π–π stacking interactions between phenanthroline rings (compound 1) and between naphthalene rings (compound 2). The interaction of the complexes with CT DNA was studied b…
