A Combined Experimental and Theoretical Charge Density Study of the Chemical Bonding and Magnetism in 3-Amino-propanolato Cu(II) Complexes Containing…

2008

The experimental (100 K) and theoretical charge densities in the binuclear complexes [Cu2(ap)2(L)2] (ap = 3-aminopropanolate) 1 (L = nitrite), 2 (L = nitrate), and 3 (L = formate) have been examined. These complexes contain the same centrosymmetric alkoxy-bridged motif, where each strongly Jahn-Teller distorted Cu(II) ion is ligated to three O atoms and one N atom in a square-planar arrangement. This primary coordination sphere is augmented by a long contact with the O atom of a pendant L anion from an adjacent molecule in the crystal lattice. Topological analyses of the experimental and theoretical densities according to the quantum theory of atoms in molecules (QTAIM) are in excellent agr…

Synthesis, reactivity and complexation studies of N,S exo-heterodisubstituted o-carborane ligands. Carborane as a platform to produce the uncommon bi…

2008

The synthesis of N,S-heterodisubstituted 1-(2'-pyridyl)-2-SR-1,2-closo-C2B10H10 compounds (R = Et, 2; R = (i)Pr, 3) has been accomplished starting from 1-(2'-pyridyl)-l,2-closo-C2B10H11 (1), and their partial deboronation reaction leading to the structurally chiral [7-(2'-pyridyl)-8-SR-7,8-nido-C2B9H10]-derivatives (R = Et, [4]-; R = (i)Pr, [5]-) has been studied. Capillary electrophoresis combined with the chiral selector alpha-cyclodextrin has permitted the separation of the electrophoretically pure racemic [7-(2'-pyridyl)-8-SR-7,8-nido-C2B9H11]- ions into two peaks each one corresponding to the interaction of one enantiomer with the alpha-cyclodextrin. The N,S-heterodisubstituted o-carbo…

Organometallic Complexes with Biological Molecules, VI. Diorganotin(IV) and Triorganotin(IV) Ampicillin and Methicillin Derivatives: Spectroscopic In…

1996

Derivatives of D(-)-α-aminobenzylpenicillin (ampicillin) and of 2,6-dimethoxyphenylpenicillin (methicillin) with diorgano- and triorgano-tin(IV) moieties have been synthesized. The stoichiometries of the compounds obtained were of the type R 2 SnCIL.H 2 O, R 3 SnCILNa.H 2 O [L=ampicillin or methicillin monoanion; R=Me, Bu, Ph] and R 2 Snampic 2 . 2H 2 O (ampic=ampicillin; R=Me, Bu, Ph). For R 2 SnCIL.H 2 O and R 3 SnCILNa.-H 2 O, infrared (IR) data suggest five-coordination around the tin(IV) atom; in R 2 Snampic 2 .2H 2 O six-coordination is most likely to occur. Thermogravimetric (TG) analysis excludes any involvement in the coordination of tin(IV) by water molecules, in any of the compou…

Synthesis crystal structure and magnetic properties of [Fe2(bpym)(C5O5)2(H2O)4]·2H2O and two polymorphs of [Fe2(bpym)(C4O4)2(H2O)6]·2H2O (bpym = 2,2′…

1998

Abstract Two dinuclear iron(II) complexes of formulae [Fe2(bpym)(C5O5)2(H2O)4]·2H2O (1) and [Fe2(bpym)(C4O4)2(H2O)6]·2H2O (2) (bpym = 2,2-bipyrimidine, C5O52 = dianion of croconic acid (4,5-dihydroxycylopent-4-ene-1,2,3-trione) and C4O42 = dianion of squaric acid (3,4-dihydroxycyclobut-3-ene-1,2-dione)) were prepared and their crystal structures (at 103 K) determined by X-ray diffraction methods. The structure of 1 consists of neutral centrosymmetric [Fe2(bpym)(C5O5)2(H2O)4] units and water molecules of crystallization which are linked by an extensive network of hydrogen bonds. The coordination geometry around each iron atom is that of a compressed octahedron with bpym nitrogen atoms and cr…

Coordinating behaviour of 3-methyl[1,2,3]triazolo[1,5-a]pyridine (tzpy): crystal and molecular structure and electronic properties of [Cu(tzpy)2(ONO2…

1999

Abstract The crystal and molecular structure of [Cu(tzpy) 2 (ONO 2 ) 2 (OH 2 )] (tzpy=3-methyl[1,2,3]triazolo[1,5- a ]pyridine) has been determined by X-ray diffraction methods. The crystal structure is built up of discrete [Cu(tzpy) 2 (ONO 2 ) 2 (OH 2 )] entities linked through hydrogen bonds. The coordination geometry around the copper atom can be described as an elongated and strongly distorted octahedron displaying a 4+1+1* coordination mode (CuN 2 O 2 O′O″ chromophore), with one of the nitrato groups acting as bidentate and involved in a weak off-the- z -axis coordination. Spectroscopic properties are interpreted on the basis of the above stereochemistry.

Benzothiazolethione complexes of coinage metals: from mononuclear complexes to clusters and polymers

2019

Abstract The reactions of 2(3H)-benzothiazolethione (Hbtt) with [AuCl(tetrahydrothiophene)] and CuBr2 were studied, and found to yield a tetranuclear cluster compound [Au(btt)]4 [1] and a polymeric structure [CuBr(btt-btt)]n.nTHF (2). Crystallographic and spectroscopic methods were used for the characterization. In 1, the monoanionic ligand acted as a bidentate bridging N,S-donor giving a molecular cluster structure of an asymmetric coordination isomer. In the formation of 2, the ligand was dimerized by forming a S–S bond after deprotonation, and coordination via nitrogen donors to metal atoms took place leading to a polymeric structure. To clarify the diversity of reactions of Hbtt with co…

Cu(II) and Cu(I) complexes with 1,2-dithiosquarate as a ligand; from molecular compounds to supramolecular network structures

2008

Abstract Four new complexes of copper(II) and/or copper(I) with 1,2-dtsq as a ligand have been synthesized and characterized by single crystal X-ray diffraction methods, [CuII(terpy)(1,2-dtsq)] (1), [CuII(dmen)(1,2-dtsq)]n (2), {[CuII(dmen)2][CuI(1,2-dtsq)]2}n·2nH2O(3) and {[CuII(men)2][CuI (1,2-dtsq)]2}n·nH2O (4) (1,2-dtsq = 1,2-dithiosquarate, dianion of 3,4-dimercapto-1-cyclobutene-1,2-dione; dmen = N,N-dimethylethylenediamine; men = N-methylethylenediamine, terpy = 2,2′:6,2″-terpyridine). Compound 1 consists of neutral [CuII(terpy)(1,2-dtsq)] mononuclear units which are held together by O⋯H–C and van der Waals interactions. Compound 2 is built of neutral [CuII(dmen)(1,2-dtsq)] entities …

X-X through-cage bonding in Cu, Ni, and Cr complexes with M3X2 cores (X=S, As).

2008

Density functional calculations on trinuclear complexes bridged by two sulfur atoms, [(tmeda)(3)Cu(3)(mu-S)(2)](3+), [(tmeda)(3)Ni(3)(mu-S)(2)](2+), and [(tmeda)(3)Ni(3)(mu-S(2))](4+), as well as on the formation of [(tmeda)(3)Cu(3)(mu-S)(2)](3+) from a dinuclear [(tmeda)(2)Cu(2)(mu-S(2))](2+) complex and a mononuclear [(tmeda)Cu(eta(2)-S(2))](+) fragment, are reported. A qualitative orbital analysis of the M(3)X(2) framework bonding is presented for the case in which each metal atom M has a square planar coordination sphere completed by one bidentate or two monodentate ligands (that is, [(L(2)M)(3)X(2)] compounds). It is concluded that a framework electron count (FEC) of 12 corresponds to …

Organotin(IV) complexes with tetraethyl ethylene- and propylene-diphosphonates

1995

The series of organotin halide complexes with tetraethyl ethylene- and propylene-diphosphonates R n SnX 4-n .L [n=0, X=Cl; n=1, R=Me, X=Cl, Br; n=1, R=Ph, X=Cl; n=2 R=Me, Et, Bu, X=Cl, Br; n=2, R=Ph, X=Cl; L=(EtO) 2 P(O)CH 2 CHR'P(O)(OEt) 2 , R'=H, Me] were synthesized and characterized by means of NMR and Mossbauer spectroscopy. The crystal structure of the complex of diphenyltin dichloride with propylenediphosphonate was determined. The complex consists of polymer chains with bridging bidentate ligands and an octahedral tin environment containing two types of phosphoryl fragments. All of the R 2 SnX 2 adducts have trans-R 2 SnX 4 geometries of tin coordination octahedra according to the q…
