On the synonymization of Acaulon longifolium Herrnst. & Heyn with Acaulon fontiquerianum Casas & Sérgio (Pottiaceae)

2021

During bryological work conducted in the Sharon plane region (Israel), a colony of Acaulon Müll. Hal. was discovered. The plants showed morphological affinities both to A. longifolium Herrnst. & Heyn and A. fontiquerianum Casas & Sérgio depending on the floras used for their identification which challenged their recognition as separate species. In order to solve this taxonomic dilemma, we conducted a detailed morphological characterization of the two species based on representative samples. The micromorphological study of vegetative, sporophytic and spore traits revealed the large overlap of range values between both species. Both species showed the characteristic combination of morphologic…

Impact on flavour release of the structure of composite gels containing polysaccharides: Example of the fruit préparations

2006

The main objective of this study was to understand the respective rôle of the structure of a food product and of the physicochemical interactions on flavour release. For that purpose, fruit préparations hâve been chosen as model matrices. Those matrices contain a polysaccharide as gelling agent, a cross-linked waxy corn starch (1.4%), a high sucrose content (35%), an acidic buffer and a strawberry aroma (17 molécules). Four matrices were developed by modifying either the composition or the concentration in gelling agent: two matrices of similar texture containing either LM pectin or carrageenan, and two carrageenan based matrices with différent gelled structures. In a first step; two comple…

Luminescence features of nonbridging oxygen hole centres in silica probed by site-selective excitation with tunable laser

2008

Time-resolved photoluminescence at 1.9 eV associated with the nonbridging oxygen hole centre (NBOHC) in silica was investigated under excitation with a ns pulsed laser system, tunable in the visible range. Mapping of the excitation/emission pattern evidences the site-selective excitation of the resonant zero phonon line (ZPL) transition due to its weak coupling with the stretching mode of dangling oxygen. Decay of ZPL follows an exponential law with lifetime of 15.3 μs, which provides a precise measure of the electronic transition probability of a single NBOHC.

Mechanical Insufflation-Exsufflation With Oscillations in Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis With Home Ventilation via Tracheostomy

2020

BACKGROUND: Mechanical insufflation-exsufflation (MI-E) applied via tracheostomy tubes in patients with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) who are on home mechanical ventilation via tracheostomy is an effective procedure for respiratory secretion management. Nonetheless, tenacious secretions may remain and increase the risk of respiratory infections. The aim of this study was to determine whether adding oscillations to MI-E could reduce the rate of respiratory infections and the need for bronchoscopy to remove secretions in patients with ALS on home mechanical ventilation via tracheostomy. METHODS: This was a 2-y, prospective, crossover study. Subjects were treated with conventional MI-E a…

Bridging a gap between continuum-QCD and ab initio predictions of hadron observables

2015

Within contemporary hadron physics there are two common methods for determining the momentum-dependence of the interaction between quarks: the top-down approach, which works toward an ab initio computation of the interaction via direct analysis of the gauge-sector gap equations; and the bottom-up scheme, which aims to infer the interaction by fitting data within a well-defined truncation of those equations in the matter sector that are relevant to bound-state properties. We unite these two approaches by demonstrating that the renormalisation-group-invariant running-interaction predicted by contemporary analyses of QCD's gauge sector coincides with that required in order to describe ground-s…

The HITRAN2016 molecular spectroscopic database

2017

This paper describes the contents of the 2016 edition of the HITRAN molecular spectroscopic compilation. The new edition replaces the previous HITRAN edition of 2012 and its updates during the intervening years. The HITRAN molecular absorption compilation is composed of five major components: the traditional line-by-line spectroscopic parameters required for high-resolution radiative-transfer codes, infrared absorption cross-sections for molecules not yet amenable to representation in a line-by-line form, collision-induced absorption data, aerosol indices of refraction, and general tables such as partition sums that apply globally to the data. The new HITRAN is greatly extended in terms of …

Scanning tunneling microscopy and spectroscopy of Mo clusters grown on TiO2(110).

2007

Molybdenum was deposited in two steps (3 eq. ML and 1 eq. ML) on the light blue rutile TiO2 10) (1 x 1) surface at room temperature, each Mo deposition cycle being followed by an annealing up to 950-1000 K. This procedure was found to lead to formation of separated clusters having a size in very wide range (1-20 nm). Scanning tunneling microscopy showed a dependence of the cluster morphology as a function of the size. The scanning tunneling spectra of Mo clusters was studied as a function of cluster dimensions and discussed in comparison with photoelectron spectroscopy results previously obtained for homogeneous Mo films. The dI/d V curves do not display the valence band structure of deposi…
