Ethylene homo- and copolymerization catalyzed by vanadium, zirconium, and titanium complexes having potentially tridentate Schiff base ligands

Abstract New potentially tridentate Schiff base ligands, 2-[({4-[(3-N,N-dimethylamino)propyl] phenyl}imino)methyl]-4,6-di-tert-butylphenol (L1H) and 2-[{2-(N-phenyl-N-methylaminomethyl)-phenylimino}-methyl]-4,6-di-tert-butylophenol (L2H) were prepared and after deprotonation they were reacted with VOCl3 or MCl4 (where M = Zr or Ti) to produce corresponding complexes (L1-V, L2-V, L1-Zr, L2-Ti) with good yields. All new compounds were characterized by the 1H and 13C NMR as well as FTIR spectroscopic methods. Abstract In copolymerization of ethylene (E) with tri-alkenyl-silsesquioxanes (POSS-6-3 and POSS-10-3) were used bis(phenoxy-imine) titanium, zirconium and vanadium catalysts, as well as salen-type vanadium catalysts. There were obtained copolymers with POSS-R-3 units as side branches of polymer chains. The type of employed bis(phenoxy-imine) titanium, zirconium and vanadium catalysts and salen-type catalyst of vanadium determined the copolymer chain termination reactions, as well as the mechanism of modification of the active species by the POSS-R-3 comonomer. Badania dotyczą układu katalitycznego MgCl2(THF)2/MAO/Cp2ZrCl2/MAO (MAO — metyloaluminoksan). Stwierdzono, że zarówno aktywność tego układu katalitycznego, jak i właściwości kopolimerów w znacznym stopniu zależą od stosunku molowego Al:Zr (zmienianego w przedziae 1500—7000) i od temperatury kopolimeryzacji (tabele 1 i 2), natomiast wpływ czasu kopolimeryzacji jest mniejszy (tabela 3). Aktywność katalizatora oraz zawartość 1-heksenu wbudowanego do kopolimeru zwiększają się ze wzrostem temperatury i stosunku Al:Zr, a jednocześnie maleje ciężar cząsteczkowy i temperatura topnienia produktów. (Co)polymerization behavior of supported metallocene catalysts. I. Ligand and substituent effect

Ethylene polymerization and its copolymerization with 1-hexene with a set of supported metallocene catalysts were studied. As a carrier, the complex of mag- nesium chloride with tetrahydrofuran, which was previously pretreated with a triiso- butylaluminium (TIBA), was used. Application of Silsesquioxanes in the Preparation of Polyolefin-Based Materials

This paper is a review of studies on the use of the polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxanes (POSS) of various structures in the synthesis of polyolefins and the modification of their properties, namely: (1) components of organometallic catalytic systems for the polymerization of olefins, (2) comonomers in the copolymerization with ethylene, and (3) fillers in composites based on polyolefins. In addition, studies on the use of new silicon compounds, i.e., siloxane–silsesquioxane resins, as fillers for composites based on polyolefins are presented. The authors dedicate this paper to Professor Bogdan Marciniec on the occasion of his jubilee.

Wpływ wybranych parametrów na efektywność katalizowanej wanadocenem kopolimeryzacji etylenu z norbornenem i właściwości otrzymanych produktów

W pracy zbadano wpływ parametrów reakcji na kopolimeryzację etylenu z norbornenem wobec katalizatora wanadocenowego (Cp2VCl2) w obecności trichloroctanu etylu (ETA). Przeprowadzono serię reakcji kopolimeryzacji, zmieniając w każdej z nich jeden z parametrów reakcji: temperaturę lub ciśnienie etylenu. Następnie zbadano temperaturę zeszklenia, stopień wbudowania norbornenu i mikrostrukturę otrzymanych kopolimerów, poddając je analizie DSC oraz spektroskopii 13C NMR. Copolymerization of Vinylidene Fluoride and Acrylic Acid in Supercritical Carbon Dioxide

The free-radical copolymerization of vinylidene fluoride (VDF) and acrylic acid (AA) was carried out in supercritical carbon dioxide using both precipitation and dispersion techniques in the presence of an ammonium carboxylate perfluoropolyether compound. Formation of a copolymer was confirmed by variable contact time CP MAS NMR spectroscopy. Macromolecular matrices were significantly enriched in AA with respect to the initial feed composition and we found that the nonfluorinated monomer has a much higher reactivity ratio with respect to VDF.
