Fifth Generation Networking Principles for a Service Driven Future Internet Architecture

2010

Published version of an article published in Wireless Personal Communications, vol. 57:393-411. Also available from the publisher at: http://dx.doi.org/10.1007/s11277-010-0076-7 The vision of all-IP networks where IP forms the simple common layer understandable across the whole network has undeniable advantages. However, such simplicity comes as a major hurdle to flexibility and functionality to the architecture. This is evident from the increasingly numerous and complex engineering solutions and optimizations required to accommodate essential qualities like mobility, security, realtime communication support etc or to mitigate the shortcomings inherent in the 'traditional Internet' architec…

HELMINTH ASSEMBLAGES OF WHITEFISH (COREGONUS LAVARETUS) IN INTERCONNECTED LAKES: SIMILARITY AS A FUNCTION OF SPECIES SPECIFIC PARASITES AND GEOGRAPHI…

2004

This article examined the composition of parasite assemblages of whitefish (Coregonus lavaretus) in 8 interconnected lakes in northeastern Finland and evaluated the role of coregonid specific parasites and the geographical distance between populations in determining the similarity of the assemblages. Parasite assemblages were compared using the Jaccard qualitative similarity index and a quantitative similarity index and by incorporating the allogenic-autogenic species concept and the effects of 2 corresponding measures of geographical distance between the lakes. The majority of the parasite species found (10 of 14) were specific to salmonids. Similarity of assemblages of autogenic parasites…

Categorical versus geometric morphometric approaches to characterizing the evolution of morphological disparity in Osteostraci (Vertebrata, stem Gnat…

2020

Morphological variation (disparity) tends to be evaluated through two non-mutually exclusive approaches: (i) quantitatively, through geometric morphometrics, and (ii) in terms of discrete, ‘cladistic’, or categorical characters. Uncertainty over the comparability of these approaches diminishes the potential to obtain nomothetic insights into the evolution of morphological disparity, and the few benchmarking studies conducted so far show contrasting results. Here, we apply both approaches to characterising morphology in the stem-gnathostome vertebrate clade Osteostraci, in order to assess congruence between these alternative methods as well as to explore the evolutionary patterns of the grou…

Changes to processes in estuaries and coastal waters due to intense multiple pressures:an introduction and synthesis

2015

From the 2013 ECSA conference ‘Estuaries and Coastal Areas in Times of Intense Change’ a theme emerged that has ended up being the focus of this Special Issue of Estuarine Coastal and Shelf Science, namely ‘Changes to processes in estuaries and coastal waters due to intense multiple pressures’. Manyparts of the world are continuing to experience unprecedented rates of economic growth, and those responsible for managing coastal and estuarine areas must respond accordingly. At the same time, global climate change and sea level rise are also continuing, placing new or more intense pressures on coastal areas that must be dealt with in ways that are as far as possible managed as a result of good…

Efficacy and safety profile of LCR35 complete freeze-dried culture in irritable bowel syndrome: A randomized, double-blind study

2011

International audience; AIM: To assess the effects and safety of Lactobacillus casei rhamnosus LCR35 complete freeze-dried culture (LCR35) in patients suffering from irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). METHODS: A randomized, double-blind pilot study was performed in 50 patients complaining of IBS symptoms complying with Rome III criteria. Patients were allocated to receive either LCR35 (n = 25) at a minimum daily dose of 6 × 10(8) colony forming units or placebo (n = 25) for 4 wk. At inclusion, after treatment and 2 wk later, patients completed the IBS severity scale. Change from baseline in the IBS severity score at the end of treatment was the primary efficacy criterion. Changes were compared…

Testing the direct and moderator effects of the stressor-detachment model over one year : A latent change perspective

2018

ABSTRACTTo test the direct and moderator effects of the stressor–detachment model from a long-term perspective, we investigated whether workload and detachment are related to changes in exhaustion and sleep difficulties over one year. We also examined whether detachment attenuates the relationship between high workload and these outcomes both cross-sectionally and over time. Questionnaire data with 1722 respondents at Time 1 and 1182 respondents at Time 2 were collected. We used a latent change score approach to analyse the data in order to identify intra-individual change among the studied constructs. Our results showed that high workload and low detachment at baseline were related to an i…

Gravitational wave signature of proto-neutron star convection: I. MHD numerical simulations

2021

Gravitational waves provide a unique and powerful opportunity to constrain the dynamics in the interior of proto-neutron stars during core collapse supernovae. Convective motions play an important role in generating neutron stars magnetic fields, which could explain magnetar formation in the presence of fast rotation. We compute the gravitational wave emission from proto-neutron star convection and its associated dynamo, by post-processing three-dimensional MHD simulations of a model restricted to the convective zone in the anelastic approximation. We consider two different proto-neutron star structures representative of early times (with a convective layer) and late times (when the star is…

The study makes known, thanks to unpublished autograph payment receipt of the painter, Vincenzo Maria Salerno, hitherto unknown to studies, the authorship and date of execution (1731) of the recently found frescoes inside the chapel of St. John of Nepomuk, as well as data on the client, priest Vincenzo Pecorella.

Phase transitions in a colloidal dispersion flowing through a cylindrical capillary

2008

The flow of a charged-stabilized colloidal dispersion of crystalline equilibrium structure through a cylindrical capillary is investigated. The simultaneous existence of up to three differently ordered states is observed under conditions of stationary flow. The evolution of their concentric arrangement along the capillary is determined by Bragg microscopy. For sufficient low fluxes, stationary phase distributions are obtained. While the apparent viscosity is non-monotonous and non-Newtonian, the corresponding velocity profiles are found to be piecewise parabolic and are compatible to numerical calculations. Furthermore, we test the assumption of a constant yield stress determining the radia…
