Knowledge and attitudes towards smoking cessation counselling: an Italian cross-sectional survey on tertiary care nursing staff

2021

Background One of the most effective smoking cessation strategies involves care and advice from nurses due to their role in the front line of treatment. Lack of education on smoking cessation counselling may be detrimental, and adequate smoking cessation training during healthcare studies is needed. Objectives The study aimed to examine nurses’ attitudes, belief, and knowledge of smoking cessation counselling; knowledge of the health risks associated with smoking was also assessed. Design A cross-sectional survey on 77 nurses from the nursing staff of Cardiology, Cardiac Intensive Care and Surgical Oncology Units of two tertiary hospitals. Methods Cronbach’s alpha was calculated to assess …

Randomised clinical trials: a source of ethical dilemmas

2001

Clinical trials give rise to ethical dilemmas, especially in the acutely ill, but we take issue with two points raised in a recent comment on a specific acute myocardial infarction (AMI) trial. The commentators judged that the trial most likely could, and therefore should, have been terminated much earlier. By analysing the problem statistically we arrive at results that go against their intuitive judgment—they also see it as mandatory to update the patient Information sheet as trial results accrue and trends begin to emerge. In our view, interpreting subtle trends and borderline p-values must rest with data monitoring boards, not patients. Moreover, patients with AMI or in other medical em…

0133: The Log Book as a new tool for the secondary prevention of coronary artery disease

2016

International audience; IntroductionThe Log book (LB) project was created by a multidisciplinary team of healthcare professionals from a regional care network and aimed to improve secondary prevention (SP) after acute myocardial infarction (MI) in Cote d’Or. LB includes information and advices for increasing self management of risk factors by the patient.MethodsA prospective interventional study on 469 patients hospitalised for an acute MI in the 2 Intensive Coronary Care unit of Côte d’Or (CHU Dijon and Clinique de Fontaine les Dijon) in 2012 and surviving at 1 year follow-up (FU). LB was randomly given at the time of their hospitalisation by the nursing team, also providing oral advices o…

Post-infectious myocardial Infarction: Does percutaneous coronary intervention improve outcomes? A propensity-score matched analysis

2020

Acute infection is a frequent trigger of myocardial infarction (MI). However, whether percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) improves post-infectious MI prognosis is a major but unsolved issue. In this prospective multicenter study from coronary care units, we performed propensity score-matched analysis to compare outcomes in patients with and without PCI for post-infectious MI with angiography-proven significant coronary stenosis (&gt
