Abstract Several new 4-diazopyrazole derivatives were prepared by the reaction of 3-methyl-5(substituted-benzamido)pyrazoles with an excess of nitrous acid in acetic acid solution. The compounds were tested for antiretroviral activity in HIV-1 infected MT-4 cells and antiproliferative effects against a panel of human leukemia, lymphoma and solid tumor cell lines. They were also tested for activity against representative gram-negative ( Shigella, Salmonella ) and gram-positive ( S. aureus, D group Streptococcus ) bacteria as well as fungi ( C. albicans, C. paratropicalis, C. neoformans and A. fumigatus ). Abstract Background Vertebrates sense chemical stimuli through the olfactory receptor neurons whose axons project to the main olfactory bulb. The main projections of the olfactory bulb are directed to the olfactory cortex and olfactory amygdala (the anterior and posterolateral cortical amygdalae). In rodents, socio-sexual behaviour is largely mediated by chemosensory cues, some of which are rewarding stimuli. Female mice display an innate attraction towards male chemosignals, dependent on the vomeronasal system. This behaviour likely reflects the hedonic value of sexual chemosignals. The anteromedial aspect of the olfactory tubercle, along with its associated islands of Calleja, receives vomeronasal inputs and sexually-dimorphic vasopressinergic innervation. This article examines changes to street names in the city of Oppeln before the transformation to Polish names in 1945. The research is based on a corpus comprising a complete official register of streets and squares in Oppeln/Opole from the beginnings of the town’s history to 2010. The author focuses on the changes in the use of language over the centuries, the form of the hodonyms (on the morphosyntactic level), and the motives for the changes in individual street names.

It is generally assumed that drugs which induce relaxation of smooth muscles may be of clinical importance in some urological disorders; such drugs are indeed widely used, for example, in the therapy of unstable bladders or to facilitate the passage of ureteral stones. Recently, papaverine has been shown to be very effective, e.g., in relaxing smooth muscles of the corpus cavernosum penis, thereby inducing erections in many impotent men (Virag 1982). The purpose of this study is to determine the relaxing properties of papaverine in isolated muscle strips from the human detrusor and to evaluate its potential clinical importance.
Hypothesis: can N-acetylcysteine be beneficial in Parkinson's disease?

Based on the finding of decreased mitochondrial complex I activity in the substantia nigra of patients with Parkinson's disease, we propose that the consequent reduction of ATP synthesis and increased generation of reactive oxygen species may be a possible cause of nigrostriatal cell death. Since sulfhydryl groups are essential in oxidative phosphorylation, thiolic antioxidants may contribute to the preservation of these proteins against oxidative damage. In the present paper, we hypothesize that treatment with a sulfur-containing antioxidant such as N-acetylcysteine may provide a new neuroprotective therapeutic strategy for Parkinson's disease.
