Analysis of the effects of pulsed microwave on cardiac activity

1993

Abstract The exposure of isolated chick embryo hearts to 2.45 GHz pulse modulated microwaves has identified certain phenomena: (1) when the heartbeat was irregular, an appropriate pulse repetition rate caused regularization; (2) during regular beating, an increase of pulse repetition rate similarly increased the heartbeat frequency, until an irregular heartbeat appeared; (3) by applying microwaves, when an arrhythmia occurs, a regular beat appeared after a few seconds. Time correlation between the heartbeat and the modulating pulses revealed that regularization occurs when the modulation pulses, at a frequency close to the natural unperturbed heartbeat, were applied in the ventricular diast…

Mode-coupling theory of the glass transition for confined fluids

2012

We present a detailed derivation of a microscopic theory for the glass transition of a liquid enclosed between two parallel walls relying on a mode-coupling approximation. This geometry lacks translational invariance perpendicular to the walls, which implies that the density profile and the density-density correlation function depends explicitly on the distances to the walls. We discuss the residual symmetry properties in slab geometry and introduce a symmetry adapted complete set of two-point correlation functions. Since the currents naturally split into components parallel and perpendicular to the walls the mathematical structure of the theory differs from the established mode-coupling eq…

Smart load prediction analysis for distributed power network of Holiday Cabins in Norwegian rural area

2020

Abstract The Norwegian rural distributed power network is mainly designed for Holiday Cabins with limited electrical loading capacity. Load prediction analysis, within such type of network, is necessary for effective operation and to manage the increasing demand of new appliances (e. g. electric vehicles and heat pumps). In this paper, load prediction of a distributed power network (i.e. a typical Norwegian rural area power network of 125 cottages with 478 kW peak demand) is carried out using regression analysis techniques for establishing autocorrelations and correlations among weather parameters and occurrence time in the period of 2014–2018. In this study, the regression analysis for loa…

An improved method for estimating the frequency correlation function

2012

For time-invariant frequency-selective channels, the transfer function is a superposition of waves having different propagation delays and path gains. In order to estimate the frequency correlation function (FCF) of such channels, the frequency averaging technique can be utilized. The obtained FCF can be expressed as a sum of auto-terms (ATs) and cross-terms (CTs). The ATs are caused by the autocorrelation of individual path components. The CTs are due to the cross-correlation of different path components. These CTs have no physical meaning and leads to an estimation error. We propose a new estimation method aiming to improve the estimation accuracy of the FCF of a band-limited transfer fun…

A Highly Flexible Trajectory Model Based on the Primitives of Brownian Fields—Part II: Analysis of the Statistical Properties

2016

In the first part of our paper, we have proposed a highly flexible trajectory model based on the primitives of Brownian fields (BFs). In this second part, we study the statistical properties of that trajectory model in depth. These properties include the autocorrelation function (ACF), mean, and the variance of the path along each axis. We also derive the distribution of the angle-of-motion (AOM) process, the incremental traveling length process, and the overall traveling length. It is shown that the path process is in general non-stationary. We show that the AOM and the incremental traveling length processes can be modeled by the phase and the envelope of a complex Gaussian process with no…

Counting common perpendicular arcs in negative curvature

2013

Let $D^-$ and $D^+$ be properly immersed closed locally convex subsets of a Riemannian manifold with pinched negative sectional curvature. Using mixing properties of the geodesic flow, we give an asymptotic formula as $t\to+\infty$ for the number of common perpendiculars of length at most $t$ from $D^-$ to $D^+$, counted with multiplicities, and we prove the equidistribution in the outer and inner unit normal bundles of $D^-$ and $D^+$ of the tangent vectors at the endpoints of the common perpendiculars. When the manifold is compact with exponential decay of correlations or arithmetic with finite volume, we give an error term for the asymptotic. As an application, we give an asymptotic form…

Early Signs of Mathematics Anxiety?

2012

Abstract Mathematics anxiety refers to individual's negative affect when engaging in numerical and mathematical tasks. Researchers have recently connected high math anxiety to lower performance on math tasks, developmental dyscalculia, and lower self-efficacy towards math learning. Math anxiety scales have been made and validated mainly for secondary school and high school students. In our paper we are looking for early signs of math anxiety using a Pictorial Test (37 pictures) which we have developed for 6 to 8 year old children. Children were asked to concentrate on one picture at a time and to write down spontaneously their emotional and mathematical ideas. Most powerful sources of sadne…

Investigation of temperature coefficients of PV modules through field measured data

2021

Abstract Varying broadband irradiance and temperature are generally known as the major factors influencing the performance of PV modules, but studies have also shown the substantial impact of spectral variations. In this work, a simple and efficient method to calculate the temperature coefficient using long term data is demonstrated. Temperature coefficients of PV modules are estimated from long term performance data following IEC 60891 standard with additional spectral correction, and are compared against the datasheet values. Significant improvement of correlation coefficient from −0.89 to −0.97 is observed during the regression for maximum power temperature coefficient of two poly-crysta…

Deep Learning Models Performance For NDVI Time Series Prediction: A Case Study On North West Tunisia

2020

The main goal of this paper is to analyze the performance of two deep learning models Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) and bidirectional LSTM (BiLSTM) network for non-stationary Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) time-series prediction. Both methods have provided good performances in the different time series. The BiLSTM has shown the best agreement with the lowest root mean square error (RMSE) and the highest Pearson correlation coefficient (R) of 0.034 and 0.93, respectively.
