Patterns of trading profiles at the Nordic Stock Exchange. A correlation-based approach.

2016

We investigate the trading behavior of Finnish individual investors trading the stocks selected to compute the OMXH25 index in 2003 by tracking the individual daily investment decisions. We verify that the set of investors is a highly heterogeneous system under many aspects. We introduce a correlation based method that is able to detect a hierarchical structure of the trading profiles of heterogeneous individual investors. We verify that the detected hierarchical structure is highly overlapping with the cluster structure obtained with the approach of statistically validated networks when an appropriate threshold of the hierarchical trees is used. We also show that the combination of the cor…

Neural network prediction of the AE index from the PC index

1999

Abstract It is shown that although the power spectra of the AE and PC data are quite similar they show differencies in structure function analysis. While the AE time series has a clear drop in the slope of the structure function (SF) after the first 2 hours, the slope of the SF of the PC data decreases gradually and at a little longer time scale. It is also shown by using 15-min averaged data, that both SFs are periodic with a clear diurnal variation. The PC time series seems to have a more pronounced periodicity, probably because it is measured at a single station at Thule. The AE index has been derived from the PC index for 7.5 minutes ahead by different methods. All these predictions gav…

Production of cyclopiazonic acid by molds isolated from Taleggio cheese

1999

Twenty-seven strains of Penicillium were isolated from the rind of Taleggio, a typical Italian cheese, so that we could test their capacity to produce cyclopiazonic acid (CPA); all strains produced CPA. The production was strongly influenced by the strain variety and growth conditions. Strains incubated at 25 degrees C for 7 days always produced CPA in mannitol broth, with concentrations ranging from 0.02 to 1 microg/ml, whereas only 33% of strains grown in yeast-extract broth produced CPA, with a maximum value of 0.1 microg/ml. In milk, maximum production (1.6 microg/ml) was observed after 14 days of incubation at 25 degrees C. In order to evaluate the presence of the toxin and its capacit…

Definition of a fiber macro-model for nonlinear analysis of infilled frames

2017

A common way to model infill-frame interaction is the use equivalent strut macromodels. In most cases these are compression only resistant truss elements defined with a multi-linear axial-force / axial-displacement law. The main difficulty in using this approach is to correctly calibrate such a force-displacement curve (slope of ascending and post-peak branches, critical yielding, peak and residual forces) because of the large number of variables (mechanical and elastic properties of materials) and the different possible damage mechanisms activated for the frame-infill system. Another possible way is using fiber-section elements as diagonal struts. In this case the force-displacement law is…

Aggregation of the web performance of internal university units as a method of quantitative analysis of a university system: The case of Spain

2013

The aggregation of web performance (page count and visibility) of internal university units could constitute a more precise indicator than the overall web performance of the universities and, therefore, be of use in the design of university web rankings. In order to test this hypothesis, a longitudinal analysis of the internal units of the Spanish university system was conducted over the course of 2010. For the 13800 URLs identified, page count and visibility was calculated using the Yahoo API. The internal values obtained were aggregated by university and compared with the values obtained from the analysis of the university general URLs. The results indicate that, although the correlations…

Synergistic Information Transfer in the Global System of Financial Markets.

2020

Uncovering dynamic information flow between stock market indices has been the topic of several studies which exploited the notion of transfer entropy or Granger causality, its linear version. The output of the transfer entropy approach is a directed weighted graph measuring the information about the future state of each target provided by the knowledge of the state of each driving stock market index. In order to go beyond the pairwise description of the information flow, thus looking at higher order informational circuits, here we apply the partial information decomposition to triplets consisting of a pair of driving markets (belonging to America or Europe) and a target market in Asia. Our …
