Uncalibrated Reconstruction: An Adaptation to Structured Light Vision

Abstract Euclidean reconstruction from two uncalibrated stereoscopic views is achievable from the knowledge of geometrical constraints about the environment. Unfortunately, these constraints may be quite difficult to obtain. In this paper, we propose an approach based on structured lighting, which has the advantage of providing geometrical constraints independent of the scene geometry. Moreover, the use of structured light provides a unique solution to the tricky correspondence problem present in stereovision. Efficient correspondence problem-solving in 3-D shape reconstruction using a structured light system

This paper deals with 3-D object reconstruction using a structured light system (SLS). The SLS is composed of a camera and a laser projector that illuminates spots on the scene of interest. The basic problem of such a system is the correspondence problem. If the correct correspondence between the imaged spots and the projected laser rays is found, the 3-D coordinates of the physical points associated with these spots can be calculated. Sign and Rank Covariance Matrices: Statistical Properties and Application to Principal Components Analysis

In this paper, the estimation of covariance matrices based on multivariate sign and rank vectors is discussed. Equivariance and robustness properties of the sign and rank covariance matrices are described. We show their use for the principal components analysis (PCA) problem. Limiting efficiencies of the estimation procedures for PCA are compared.

Building the human brain As the brain develops, neurons migrate from zones of proliferation to their final locations, where they begin to build circuits. Paredes et al. have discovered that shortly after birth, a group of neurons that proliferates near the ventricles migrates in chains alongside circulatory vessels into the frontal lobes (see the Perspective by McKenzie and Fishell). Young neurons that migrate postnatally into the anterior cingulate cortex then develop features of inhibitory interneurons.
