Background The synaptosomal associated protein SNAP25 is crucial for synaptic vesicle docking and fusion and has been associated with multiple psychiatric conditions. We recently identified a promoter variant in SNAP25, rs6039769, associated with bipolar disorder and gene expression in prefrontal cortex. The inhibition of 11-β-hydroxylase in the adrenal cortex with SU 4885 (metopiron) increases the ACTH-secretion. Val5-angiotensin II blocks the reaction of the anterior pituitary gland similarly as does dexamethasone. Mode and intensity of this action of angiotensin II, and the influence on rats treated as described, are studied.

Left but not right temporal involvement in opaque idiom comprehension: a repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation study

Abstract It has been suggested that figurative language, which includes idioms, is controlled by the right hemisphere. We tested the right hemisphere hypothesis by using repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) to transiently disrupt the function of the frontal and temporal areas of the right versus left hemisphere in a group of normal participants involved in a task of opaque idiom versus literal sentence comprehension. Stimulus-induced gamma activity in the electrocorticogram of freely moving rats: the neuronal signature of novelty detection.

To investigate the cortical activity pattern associated with the exploration and identification of a novel object we recorded the intracranial electrocorticogram (ECoG) in the barrel cortex of freely moving adult rats using wireless technology. We report here that the exploration and detection of a novel object correlate with a transient increase of synchronized oscillatory activity in the 40–47 Hz frequency band. A novel arousal-based individual screening reveals susceptibility and resilience to PTSD-like phenotypes in mice

Translational animal models for studying post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) are valuable for elucidating the poorly understood neurobiology of this neuropsychiatric disorder. These models should encompass crucial features, including persistence of PTSD-like phenotypes triggered after exposure to a single traumatic event, trauma susceptibility/resilience and predictive validity. Here we propose a novel arousal-based individual screening (AIS) model that recapitulates all these features. Metaplasticity of horizontal connections in the vicinity of focal laser lesions in rat visual cortex

Focal cortical injuries are accompanied by a reorganization of the adjacent neuronal networks. An increased synaptic plasticity has been suggested to mediate, at least in part, this functional reorganization. Previous studies showed an increased long-term potentiation (LTP) at synapses formed by ascending fibres projecting onto layers 2/3 pyramidal cells following lesions in rat visual cortex. TMS activation of interhemispheric pathways between the posterior parietal cortex and the contralateral motor cortex

Using a twin coil transcranial magnetic stimulation (tc-TMS) approach we have previously demonstrated that facilitation may be detected in the primary motor cortex (M1) following stimulation over the ipsilateral caudal intraparietal sulcus (cIPS). Here we tested the interhemispheric interactions between the IPS and the contralateral motor cortex (M1). We found that conditioning the right cIPS facilitated contralateral M1 when the conditioning stimulus had an intensity of 90% resting motor threshold (RMT) but not at 70% or 110% RMT.
