THE ATTITUDE AND MOTIVATION OF BUYERS OF TRADITIONAL/ LOCAL/ BIO PRODUCTS IN THE CONTEXT OF AGROTOURISM, IN SIBIU COUNTY, ROMANIA
2013
Based on the statistical data concerning the sheep breeding in district Sibiu and on the information obtained by making investigations markets and fairs where they sell traditional/bio products, the extent was appreciated to which this products are known and desired. The survey was conducted between May and November 2012 in four locations: “Transilvania Peasant Market (Piata Taraneasca Transilvania)”, “Traditional agro-food products Fear (Targul de Produse Agroalimentare Traditionale)” from Huet Market, “Traditional Products and Handicrafts Fear (Targul de Produse Traditionale si Mestesugaresti)” inside the Carrefour hypermarket and in “Agricultural Market” Rasinari, Sibiu county. There wer…
Reliability and Sensitivity of Nocturnal Heart Rate and Heart-Rate Variability in Monitoring Individual Responses to Training Load
2022
Purpose: To assess the reliability of nocturnal heart rate (HR) and HR variability (HRV) and to analyze the sensitivity of these markers to maximal endurance exercise. Methods: Recreational runners recorded nocturnal HR and HRV on nights after 2 identical low-intensity training sessions (n = 15) and on nights before and after a 3000-m running test (n = 23). Average HR, the natural logarithm of the root mean square of successive differences (LnRMSSD), and the natural logarithm of the high-frequency power (LnHF) were analyzed from a full night (FULL), a 4-hour (4H) segment starting 30 minutes after going to sleep, and morning value (MOR) based on the endpoint of the linear fit through all 5-m…
Water immersion methods do not alter muscle damage and inflammation biomarkers after high-intensity sprinting and jumping exercise
2020
Purpose The aim of this study was to compare the efficacy of three water immersion interventions performed after active recovery compared to active recovery only on the resolution of inflammation and markers of muscle damage post-exercise. Methods Nine physically active men (n = 9; age 20‒35 years) performed an intensive loading protocol, including maximal jumps and sprinting on four occasions. After each trial, one of three recovery interventions (10 min duration) was used in a random order: cold-water immersion (CWI, 10 °C), thermoneutral water immersion (TWI, 24 °C), contrast water therapy (CWT, alternately 10 °C and 38 °C). All of these methods were performed after an active recovery (1…
2013
Dažādi faktori ietekmē piekrastes zonas attīstību gan pasaulē, gan Latvijā, kā rezultātā notiek izmaiņas ainavas struktūrā un tās spējā nodrošināt sabiedrībai nepieciešamos resursus. Promocijas darbā Latvijas piekrastes ainava ir pētīta atšķirīgos mērogos un kontekstos: i) izmaiņas jūras piekrastes ainavas struktūrā un tās ietekmējošie faktori ir vērtēti visas Latvijas piekrastes zonā; ii) potenciālā vēja enerģijas ražošanas jūrā ietekme uz ainavas vizuālo struktūru ir novērtēta unikālajā Baltijas jūras stāvkrastu zonā; iii) pludmales ainavas kā rekreācijas pakalpojuma nodrošinātāja nozīmīgums ir noskaidrots četrās atšķirīgās Latvijas pludmalēs. Darbs ir transdisciplinārs, jo tajā ir izmant…
Scientific writing for impact factor journals
2013
EASARCICAPLivre dispo. dans :hal-00832739, version 1; Publish or Perish. This old adage illustrates the importance of scientific communication; essential to research, it also represents a strategic sector for each country’s competitiveness. An often-neglected topic, scientific communication is of vital importance, with new information technologies accelerating and profoundly changing how knowledge is disseminated. The necessity of optimally disseminating experts’ findings has also become crucial to researchers, institutes and universities alike, which has prompted the recent advent of Impact Factors for the evaluation and financing of research, the goal being for scientific knowledge to be …
Research and Projects for the Recovery of the “Tifeo” Power Station in Augusta
2015
The buildings of the Tifeo Augusta Power Station (SR) significantly tell us, even today, the history of the Sicilian industrial dream at the end of the Fifties. However, with the passing of time, it revealed the underlying contradictions still present today in Augusta together with polluting and oppressive petrochemical plants built during those times. Regardless of any recovery theory about the Augusta Power Station, it is clear that an open and multidisciplinary look cannot be ignored, locating the power station in the actual and future setting of the vastest territory in which it is sited. The past, the present and, of course, the future of the Augusta area are tightly connected to the s…
Targeting the mevalonate pathway for improved anticancer therapy.
2009
The mevalonate pathway is important for the generation of isoprene moieties thereby providing the basis for the biosynthesis of molecules required for maintaining membrane integrity, steroid production and cell respiration. Additionally, isoprene precursors are indispensable for the prenylation of regulatory proteins such as Ras and Ras-homologous (Rho) GTPases. These low molecular GTP-binding proteins play key roles in numerous signal transduction pathways stimulated upon activation of cell surface receptors by ligand binding. Thus, Ras/Rho proteins eventually regulate cell proliferation, tumor progression and cell death induced by anticancer therapeutics. Lipid modification of Ras/Rho pro…
Rho GTPases: Promising Cellular Targets for Novel Anticancer Drugs
2006
Ras-homologous (Rho) GTPases play a pivotal role in the regulation of numerous cellular functions associated with malignant transformation and metastasis. Rho GTPases are localized at membranes and become activated upon stimulation of cell surface receptors. In their GTP-bound (=active) state, Rho proteins bind to effector proteins, thereby triggering specific cellular responses. Members of the Rho family of small GTPases are key regulators of actin reorganization, cell motility, cell-cell and cell-extracellular matrix (ECM) adhesion as well as of cell cycle progression, gene expression and apoptosis. Each of these functions is of importance for the development and progression of cancer. Fu…
Synthesis and biological evaluation of novel peptidomimetics as rhodesain inhibitors
2016
Novel rhodesain inhibitors were developed by combining an enantiomerically pure 3-bromoisoxazoline warhead with a 1,4-benzodiazepine scaffold as specific recognition moiety. All compounds were proven to inhibit rhodesain with Ki values in the low-micromolar range. Their activity towards rhodesain was found to be coupled to an in vitro antitrypanosomal activity, with IC50 values ranging from the mid-micromolar to a low-micromolar value for the most active rhodesain inhibitor (R,S,S)-3. All compounds showed a good selectivity against the target enzyme since all of them were proven to be poor inhibitors of human cathepsin L. Novel rhodesain inhibitors were developed by combining an enantiomeri…
