“Autographic wood-engraving: Modernist DIY“

International audience; This paper focuses on the description of modernist wood engraving as a humble form of art in the manuals published by John Farleigh, Clare Leighton and Iain Macnab between 1932 and 1940. As a specific form of artistic encounter with a medium, autographic wood engraving relied on the heritage of the Arts and Crafts’ ethics of making as well as on the modernist aesthetics of carving. This paper aims to show that the efficacy of humbleness as an artistic stance allowed wood engraving to straddle the provinces of art, craft and design at a time when the function of artistic skill and handmaking was being displaced.

Meaning in movement is an enduring topic in sport social sciences, but few studies have explored how sport is meaningful and for whom. The authors examined the relationships between demographic variables, meaningfulness of sport, and craftsmanship. Athletes (N = 258, 61.6% male, age ≥18) from the United Kingdom completed a demographic questionnaire, the Work and Meaning Inventory modified for sport, and the Craftsmanship Scale. Older age and individual sport significantly correlated with higher craftsmanship. It significantly simplifies aircraft surveillance technology and improves airborne traffic situational awareness. Many types of mobile cockpit information systems (MCISs) are based on ADS-B technology. MCIS gives pilots the flight and traffic-related information they need. MCIS has two parts: an ADS-B transceiver and an electronic flight bag (EFB) application. Le village actuel de Fontaines, situé à environ 8 km au N.-O. de Chalon-sur-Saône, se développe sur 1,5 km de long selon un unique axe E-O, depuis la montagne Saint-Hilaire à l’ouest, occupée au Néolithique puis durant l’Antiquité tardive et le haut Moyen Âge, jusqu’à l’église paroissiale Saint-Just, à l’est. Malgré une emprise limitée et contrainte par de nombreux réseaux existants, l’opération a permis de documenter l’environnement immédiat de l’église, occupé depuis l’Antiquité jusqu’à nos jours.

The article compares Rousseau’s and Wollstonecraft’s views on the imagination. It is argued that though Wollstonecraft was evidently influenced by Rousseau, there are significant differences between their views. These differences are grounded in their different views on the faculty of reason and its relation to the passions. Whereas Rousseau characterizes reason as a derivative faculty, grounded in the more primary faculty of perfectibility, Wollstonecraft perceives reason as the faculty defining human nature.
