Creative Improvisations with Information and Communication Technology to Support Learning : A Conceptual and Developmental Framework

2017

This article is about facilitating collaborative, creative improvisations in learning with Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) and in so doing enhancing under-utilised creative possibilities in education and development in schools, universities, workplaces and in every-day life. Improvisation is defined and earlier research on supporting creative improvisations with ICT is outlined. There follows a conceptual framing where improvisation is seen as a creative outcome of certain cultural ecological interactions in learning environments. It is proposed that these creative improvisational interactions can be facilitated by ICT, and developmental ideas are presented. The purpose of …

Crowdboard: Augmenting in-person idea generation with real-time crowds

2017

Online crowds can help infuse creativity into the design process, but traditional strategies for leveraging them, such as large-scale ideation platforms, require time and organizational effort in order to obtain results. We propose a new method for crowd-based ideation that simplifies the process by having smaller crowds join in-person ideators during synchronous creative sessions. Our system Crowdboard allows online crowds to provide real-time creative input during early-stage design activities, such as brainstorming or concept mapping. The system enables in-person ideators to develop ideas on a physical or digital whiteboard which is augmented with real-time creative input from online par…

The Silent Voice of Women Teachers in Latin America. Educating from Invisibility

2020

Virtual Enterprise Simulation Game as an Environment for Collaborative Creativity and Learning

2021

AbstractWhen employees become accustomed to everyday working habits it can prevent them from generating creative ideas. This familiarity takes the forms of mainly collaborating with familiar colleagues, playing roles that develop over years, and solving encountered problems with proven strategies. This chapter considers how a virtual enterprise simulation game (RealGame) can potentially foster digital creativity and collaborative learning. The game simulates a situation where team members take responsibility for managing a virtual manufacturing company and its supply chain. Theoretically, we consider RealGame a facilitating environment for people to collaborate by offering a safe environmen…

Creativity from Design and Innovation Perspectives

2017

The notion of innovation is associated with abundant literature presenting a variety of viewpoints, some complementary and others contradictory. In this literature the concept of innovation is often associated with novelty. Elsewhere the same reference to novelty is used to describe creativity, "the creative process is seen as the sequence of thoughts and actions that leads to a novel, adaptive production" (Lubart, 2010). The confusion is further maintained by the fact that research in the fields of creativity and innovation address similar questions. This article aims to explore the relationship between creativity, design, and innovation. To this end, a first part develops a short state of…

User Innovation Networks and Research Challenges

2009

User Innovation Networks (UIN) has been considered the open innovation model for this century as it functions entirely independently of manufacturers. This paper discusses two UIN cases, Daz3D, as well as Linux Dell and IBM cooperation as regards research challenges about the community of practice and interface used. It concludes that current technology only now started touching global and extreme collaboration for creativity and innovation.

Physical environment as a source for innovation: investigating the attributes of innovative space

2013

Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to investigate how physical spaces intersect with innovation and innovativeness, and what the most relevant attributes of physical space are for innovation. Design/methodology/approach – The paper reflects the changing nature of innovation, from technological advancements to services and meaning changes, and argues that the development of innovative spaces similarly embodies a diverse set of values such as collaboration, openness, and sustainability. Using a literature review, interviews, and benchmarking data, the paper examines the relationship between physical environment and innovation. Findings – The findings from both the literature review and t…
