Looking for an Order of Things: Textbooks and Chemical Classifications in Nineteenth Century France
2002
The purpose of this paper is to reconsider the issue of the creativity of textbook writing by exploring the links between nineteenth-century French textbooks and the quest for a classification of elements. The first section presents the elegant combination of didactic and chemical constraints invented by eighteenth-century chemists: the order of learning - from the known to the unknown - and the order of things - from the simple to the complex - were one and the same. In section two we argue that the alleged coincidence did not help the authors of elementary textbooks required for the new schools set up by the French revolution. Hence the variety of classifications adopted in the early nine…
Social media induced fear of missing out (FoMO) and phubbing: Behavioural, relational and psychological outcomes
2022
The penetration of smartphones and the subsequent social media use in modern workplaces have drawn scholars’ attention towards studying their influence on employees. This is a nascent yet critical field of study because initial inquiries have confirmed the significant adverse implications of smartphone and social media use for employee well-being and productivity. Acknowledging the need to better explicate the consequences of the so-called ‘dark side’ of social media use at work, we examine the association of FoMO and phubbing with both psychological (i.e. work exhaustion and creativity) and relational (i.e. workplace incivility) employee outcomes. We tested our proposed hypotheses, which r…
From Solid Spaces To Liquid Spaces: New Ecologies of Musical Practices.
2019
Purpose: In recent years, the interest in creating new educational spaces has increased substantially, aiming to influence the methods of learning of our students and to adopt new educational strategies. This article highlights the importance of the atmosphere when remodeling musical practices. Methodologically, when transforming a space, we do not only have to improve the physical architectures but also the pedagogical ones, as well as keeping the practices consistent with these changes. The MUSICLAB CR-209 'Sound laboratory' have been built in Valencia (Spain). This is a hybrid space designed especially for collaborative projects -teachers, artists, students and researchers- in which soun…

Desarrollo de las competencias básicas de los estudiantes de educación superior mediante la e-Evaluación orientada al aprendizaje
2013
Learning Oriented e-Assessment (e-LOA) is an ICT mediated learning process. It promotes the development of competences that are relevant to both students’ academic present and professional future. In this quasi-experimental research a pretest-posttest design with experimental and control groups is implemented. We believe that the actions of e-LOA favors further development of competences. The results show that in the experimental groups there is an improvement on the level of competence. Significant differences have been found between the pretest and posttest. In addition, there is a consistency between the competences that have improved and those considered in the literature (creativity, p…

La condizione metropolitana. Il postcoloniale, l'intercultura, la presa della parola
2014
The term metropolis has a double meaning: it indicates the motherland in the colonialist historical movement and, at the same time, the urban conglomerate that characterizes our postmodernity. The theoretical link between the two meanings can generate a postcolonial critique and an intercultural analysis of our multicultural metropolis, exposed to differences and multiple identifications. At the same time, the metropolitan condition shows us how the contact between the differences is now intra-cultural and no longer inter-cultural, proposing a political rewrite of Intercultural Pedagogy as a plural and materialistic Differences Pedagogy, able to recognize the characteristics of struggle for…

"The rules of the game": how to favor entrepreneurship and creativity in a non-capitalistic economy
2016
The economy, nowadays, is leading us toward a huge crisis. An environmental crisis, a new financial crisis and finally a war crisis. The aim of this paper is to propose a way to change our economy to favor a better perspective of the future. In order to promote this new economy, two suggestions are proposed: promote entrepreneurship and promote creativity within an economy that would aim at getting full employment and at avoiding any unethical action towards the environment. Several propositions are made about education, culture and economy to obtain sustainable changes in the economic landscape and in order to promote entrepreneurship in this fictive economy.
