Differential effect of hypophysectomy and growth hormone treatment on hepatic glucuronosyltransferases in male rats: Evidence for an action at a pret…
1997
International audience; The influence of growth hormone (GH) on 4-nitrophenol, bilirubin, testosterone, androsterone and estrone glucuronidation activities was studied in fully activated male rat hepatic microsomes. Sham-operated and hypophysectomized animals were injected with two different dosages of GH, mimicking either the male or female GH secretion pattern. Half the animals received thyroxine and cortisol in concentrations chosen to compensate for the lack of thyroid hormones and glucocorticoids in hypophysectomized rats. GH induced a decrease in several glucuronidation activities: bilirubin glucuronidation in both sham-operated and cortisol/ thyroxine-treated hypophysectomized rats i…
Vapor-liquid-solid mechanisms: Challenges for nanosized quantum cluster/dot/wire materials
2006
International audience; The growth mechanism model of a nanoscaled material is a critical step that has to be refined for a better understanding of a nanostructure's dot/wire fabrication. To do so, the growth mechanism will be discussed in this paper and the influence of the size of the metallic nanocluster starting point, referred to later as “size effect,” will be studied. Among many of the so-called size effects, a tremendous decrease of the melting point of the metallic nanocluster changes the physical properties as well as the physical/mechanical interactions inside the growing structure composed of a metallic dot on top of a column. The thermodynamic size effect is related to the bend…
Modeling urban growth by cellular automata
1996
International audience; The structural development of human settlements can be characterized as a complex highly feedbacketed process. The assumption that this process is governed by rather few fundamental laws stimulated a considerable research in the field of urban growth during the last decade. Aiming at the comprehension of the basic underlying dynamics different approaches from the field of self-organizing systems have been proposed. In this paper we present a "cellular model" of urban growth dynamics based on the work of White, Engelen and Uljee. As a starting point this model throws some light on the mechanism of urban growth. But even more important, it raises a lot of questions con…
Characterization of two Lactococcus lactis zinc membrane proteins, Llmg_0524 and Llmg_0526, and role of Llmg_0524 in cell wall integrity
2015
Background Due to its extraordinary chemical properties, the cysteine amino acid residue is often involved in protein folding, electron driving, sensing stress, and binding metals such as iron or zinc. Lactococcus lactis, a Gram-positive bacterium, houses around one hundred cysteine-rich proteins (with the CX2C motif) in the cytoplasm, but only a few in the membrane. Results In order to understand the role played by this motif we focused our work on two membrane proteins of unknown function: Llmg_0524 and Llmg_0526. Each of these proteins has two CX2C motifs separated by ten amino-acid residues (CX2CX10CX2C). Together with a short intervening gene (llmg_0525), the genes of these two protein…
Design, Development and Evaluation of a System for the Detection of Aerial Parts and Measurement of Growth Indices of Bell Pepper Plant Based on Ster…
2022
During the growth of plants, monitoring them brings much benefits to the producers. This monitoring includes the measurement of physical properties, counting plants leaves, detection of plants and separation of them from weeds. All these can be done different techniques, however, the techniques are favorable that are non-destructive because plant is a very sensitive creature that any manipulation can put disorder in its growth or lead to losing leaves or branches. Imaging techniques are of the best solutions for plants growth monitoring and geometric measurements. In this regard, in this project the use of stereo imaging and multispectral data was studied. Active and passive stereo imaging …
Innovative electronic lithography using self-assembly films in order to modify material surfaces at nanometric scale
2013
The concept of electon beam decomposition has been developed in order to create smaller patterns than those achieved by conventional lithographic methods. This work aimed to go further about this concept through a separation of the involved mechanisms in order to better understand them and thus reach a better control of process.A device was designed and a protocol was defined where the first stage is the adsorption at cryogenic temperature of metal-carbonyl compounds. The adsorbate is then decomposed by a focused electron beam and fragmentation residues are removed through annealing allowing the deposit reorganization. The study of the different steps of the elaboration method was followed …
Timing and patterns of the ENSO signal in Africa over the last 30 years: insights from normalized difference vegetation index data.
2014
Abstract A more complete picture of the timing and patterns of the ENSO signal during the seasonal cycle for the whole of Africa over the three last decades is provided using the normalized difference vegetation index (NDVI). Indeed, NDVI has a higher spatial resolution and is more frequently updated than in situ climate databases, and highlights the impact of ENSO on vegetation dynamics as a combined result of ENSO on rainfall, solar radiation, and temperature. The month-by-month NDVI–Niño-3.4 correlation patterns evolve as follows. From July to September, negative correlations are observed over the Sahel, the Gulf of Guinea coast, and regions from the northern Democratic Republic of Congo…
