Phenolic compounds in different olive varieties

Phenolic compounds in different olive varieties were determined by HPLC analysis over 2 years. Demethyloleuropein was found in only two (Coratina and Leccino) of the eight varieties studied, so it could be used as varietal marker. Elenolic acid glucoside and hydroxytyrosol can be considered indicators of maturation for olives. In fact, as the olives ripen, their tenor increases whereas oleuropein decreases. Characterization of Alternaria alternata Isolates from Tangerine Hybrids Affected by Brown Spot in Italy

Alternaria brown spot, caused by Alternaria alternata, is the most important disease of tangerines and their hybrids worldwide, including Italy. The disease represents, for some susceptible citrus cultivar, a limiting factor in profitable cultivation. Phytophthora palmivora a New Pathogen of Lavender in Italy

Root rot caused by Phytophthora nicotianae is considered the most serious disease of lavender in commercial cultivations in Italy. In summer 2001, in the Gela area (Sicily), ≈60% of 34,000 2-year-old landscape shrubs of English lavender (L. angustifolia) grown in a clay loam soil showed symptoms of dieback associated with root rot. Plants had been transplanted from pots in May and watered using a trickle irrigation system. Relation of fruit color, elongation, hardness, and volume to the infestation of olive cultivars by the olive fruit fly, Bactrocera oleae

The susceptibility of olive cultivars to the olive fruit fly, Bactrocera oleae (Rossi) (Diptera: Tephritidae), has seldom been studied. This article examines factors associated with olive fruit fly infestation of 16 commonly planted Sicilian olive cultivars. Total infestation data were simultaneously correlated with categorical and quantitative factors using ordinal logistic regression. Eggplants have fruits with different sizes, shapes and colours, according to the cultivar. Skin colour is due to anthocyanins, pigments located in the cell vacuole of fruit skin that belong to phenolic flavonoids, a powerful antioxidants group. Environmental conditions and growing techniques may influence fruits characteristics and their content of phenolic compounds. Evaluation of the Fate of Aldicarb and Its Metabolites in Oranges

Abstract The accumulation, persistence and fate of systemic pesticide aldicarb was melencholy evaluated in orange crops. The concentration of this pesticide and its two toxic metabolites, aldicarb sulfoxide and aldicarb sulfone was determined in leaves, rind and pulp of three orange varieties (Satsuma, Navelina and Clemetina de Nules) and in the top soil of the orange groves. The groves were located in two different places in the Valencia Community (Spain). The analysis showed that the aldicarb concentration was lower than those of aldicarb sulfoxide and aldicarb sulfone. Abstract The suitability of protein profiles established by capillary gel electrophoresis (CGE) as a tool to discriminate between 11 cultivars of Citrus (orange and tangerine) peel and pulp was evaluated in this work. Before CGE analysis, different extraction buffers (which included enzyme-assisted treatments) were compared. The best results were achieved using 5% ( v/v ) Celluclast ® 1.5 L and 5% ( v/v ) Palatase ® 20,000 L buffers for Citrus peel and pulp protein extracts, respectively.
