Eggplants have fruits with different sizes, shapes and colours, according to the cultivar. Skin colour is due to anthocyanins, pigments located in the cell vacuole of fruit skin that belong to phenolic flavonoids, a powerful antioxidants group. Environmental conditions and growing techniques may influence fruits characteristics and their content of phenolic compounds. Abstract The accumulation, persistence and fate of systemic pesticide aldicarb was melencholy evaluated in orange crops. The concentration of this pesticide and its two toxic metabolites, aldicarb sulfoxide and aldicarb sulfone was determined in leaves, rind and pulp of three orange varieties (Satsuma, Navelina and Clemetina de Nules) and in the top soil of the orange groves. The groves were located in two different places in the Valencia Community (Spain). The analysis showed that the aldicarb concentration was lower than those of aldicarb sulfoxide and aldicarb sulfone. Abstract The suitability of protein profiles established by capillary gel electrophoresis (CGE) as a tool to discriminate between 11 cultivars of Citrus (orange and tangerine) peel and pulp was evaluated in this work. Before CGE analysis, different extraction buffers (which included enzyme-assisted treatments) were compared. The best results were achieved using 5% ( v/v ) Celluclast ® 1.5 L and 5% ( v/v ) Palatase ® 20,000 L buffers for Citrus peel and pulp protein extracts, respectively. The fatty acid composition of the seed oils of six pomegranate (Punica granatum L) cultivars was qualitatively and quantitatively determined by gas chromatography. The seeds contained oil in the range 51-152 mg kg -1 dry matter. Intervarietal differences in fatty acid composition were demonstrated (fatty acid esters as % (w/w) total fatty acid esters. Sour varieties had the highest while sour-sweet varieties had the lowest oil content. Eleven fatty acids were identified. Abstract Nine different oleanane-type glycosides were extracted and isolated by various chromatographic methods from two Weigela florida cultivars, “Pink Poppet” and “Jean’s Gold”. From the roots of W. florida “Pink Poppet”, three monodesmosidic oleanolic acid saponins 1, 4, 5 were obtained, together with one hederagenin ester 6 from the leaves, and six bidesmosidic saponins 2, 3, 6-9 were isolated from the leaves of W. florida “Jean’s Gold”. Abstract We present characterisation data for two Spanish autochthonous grapevines, Bobal and Crujidera, in comparison with the well-known cultivars Tempranillo and Cabernet Sauvignon. Microsatellite markers were used for the molecular characterisation of Crujidera grapevines. Pistachio nuts are worldwide appreciated for their chemical and organoleptic profiles. There are several studies on the influence of irrigation on pistachio productivity, whereas there are little available data on the influence on nut quality. In this study we characterized some qualitative traits of pistachio nuts cultivar Bianca in Mediterranean environment and how plant water status affected them.
