A one-loop study of matching conditions for static-light flavor currents

2012

Heavy Quark Effective Theory (HQET) computations of semi-leptonic decays, e.g. B -> pi l nu, require the knowledge of the parameters in the effective theory for all components of the heavy-light flavor currents. So far non-perturbative matching conditions have been employed only for the time component of the axial current. Here we perform a check of matching conditions for the time component of the vector current and the spatial component of the axial vector current up to one-loop order of perturbation theory and to lowest order of the 1/m-expansion. We find that the proposed observables have small higher order terms in the 1/m-series and are thus excellent candidates for a non-perturbat…

Aharonov–Bohm/Casher effect in a Kondo ring

2000

The in#uence of a magnetic impurity or ultrasmall quantum dot on the spin and charge persistent currents of a mesoscopic ring is investigated. The system consists of electrons in a one-dimensional ring threaded by spin-dependent Aharonov}Bohm/Casher #uxes, and coupled via an antiferromagnetic exchange interaction to a localized electron. The problem is mapped onto a Kondo model for the even-parity channel plus free electrons in the odd-parity channel. The twisted boundary conditions representing the #uxes couple states of opposite parity unless the twist angles / a satisfy / a "f a p, where f a are integers, with spin index a"C, B. For these special values of / a , the model is solvable by …

Quantized current source with mesoscopic feedback

2011

We study a mesoscopic circuit of two quantized current sources, realized by nonadiabatic single-electron pumps connected in series with a small micron-sized island in between. We find that quantum transport through the second pump can be locked onto the quantized current of the first one by a feedback due to charging of the mesoscopic island. This is confirmed by a measurement of the charge variation on the island using a nearby charge detector. Finally, the charge feedback signal clearly evidences loading into excited states of the dynamic quantum dot during single-electron pump operation. © 2011 American Physical Society.

Neutron generator for BNCT based on high current ECR ion source with gyrotron plasma heating

2015

BNCT development nowadays is constrained by a progress in neutron sources design. Creation of a cheap and compact intense neutron source would significantly simplify trial treatments avoiding use of expensive and complicated nuclear reactors and accelerators. D-D or D-T neutron generator is one of alternative types of such sources for. A so-called high current quasi-gasdynamic ECR ion source with plasma heating by millimeter wave gyrotron radiation is suggested to be used in a scheme of D-D neutron generator in the present work. Ion source of that type was developed in the Institute of Applied Physics of Russian Academy of Sciences (Nizhny Novgorod, Russia). It can produce deuteron ion beam…

Influence of domain wall anisotropy on the current-induced hysteresis loop shift for quantification of the Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interaction

2021

Using several material systems with various magnitudes of the interfacial Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interaction (DMI), we elucidate a critical influence of domain wall (DW) anisotropy on the current-induced hysteresis loop shift scheme widely employed to determine the magnitude of the Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya effective field (${H}_{\mathrm{DMI}}$). Taking into account the DW anisotropy in the analysis of the hysteresis loop shift, which has not been included in the original model [Phys. Rev. B 93, 144409 (2016)], we show that it provides quantitative agreement of ${H}_{\mathrm{DMI}}$ with that determined from an asymmetric bubble expansion technique for small DMI material systems. For large DMI sy…

Journal of High Energy Physics

2015

In this article we consider the presence of neutrino non-standard interactions (NSI) in the production and detection processes of reactor antineutrinos at the Daya Bay experiment. We report for the first time, the new constraints on the flavor non-universal and flavor universal charged-current NSI parameters, estimated using the currently released 621 days of Daya Bay data. New limits are placed assuming that the new physics effects are just inverse of each other in the production and detection processes. With this special choice of the NSI parameters, we observe a shift in the oscillation amplitude without distorting the $L/E$ pattern of the oscillation probability. This shift in the depth…

Measurement of the polarization in νμ charged current interactions in the NOMAD experiment

2001

The Λ polarization in νμ charged current interactions has been measured in the NOMAD experiment. The event sample (8087 reconstructed Λ 's) is more than an order of magnitude larger than that of previous bubble chamber experiments, while the quality of event reconstruction is comparable. We observe negative polarization along the W -boson direction which is enhanced in the target fragmentation region: Px(xF 0)=−0.09±0.06(stat)±0.03(sys) . These results provide a test of different models describing the nucleon spin composition and the spin transfer mechanisms. A significant transverse polarization (in the direction orthogonal to the Λ production plane) has been observed for the first time in…

Updated Search for the Flavor-Changing Neutral-Current Decay D^0 \to {\mu} + {\mu}-

2010

We report on a search for the flavor-changing neutral-current decay D0 \to {\mu}+ {\mu}- in pp collisions at \surd s = 1.96 TeV using 360 pb-1 of integrated luminosity collected by the CDF II detector at the Fermilab Tevatron collider. A displaced vertex trigger selects long-lived D0 candidates in the {\mu}+ {\mu}-, {\pi}+{\pi}-, and K-{\pi}+ decay modes. We use the Cabibbo-favored D0 \to K-{\pi}+ channel to optimize the selection criteria in an unbiased manner, and the kinematically similar D0 \to{\pi}+ {\pi}- channel for normalization. We set an upper limit on the branching fraction (D0 --> {\mu}+ {\mu}-) < 2.1 E-7 (3.0 E-7) at the 90% (95%) confidence level.

Numerical Analysis of a Transposed Multiwired Armature in Electromagnetic Rail Launchers

2020

Solid armatures in electromagnetic rail launchers have to undergo severe electromagnetic, mechanical, and thermal stresses. These stresses are unevenly distributed in the armature mainly due to the velocity skin effect. Contrasting this effect reduces the peak to average ratio of the stresses and allows better performance of the device. In this article, the behavior of a transposed multiconductor solid armature is numerically investigated by the research code electric network for electromagnetics (EN4EM) developed at the Department of Energy, System, Territory and Construction Engineering (DESTEC), University of Pisa, Pisa, Italy. The code is based on an integral formulation that reduces th…

Final State Interaction Effects in 3He(e ,e'p)

2003

Abstract Asymmetries in quasi-elastic 3 He ( e → , e ′ p ) have been measured at a momentum transfer of 0.67 (GeV/ c ) 2 and are compared to a calculation which takes into account relativistic kinematics in the final state and a relativistic one-body current operator. With an exact solution of the Faddeev equation for the 3 He -ground state and an approximate treatment of final state interactions in the continuum good agreement is found with the experimental data.
