In recent years, molecular-protected metallic nanoparticles (NPs) have attracted a great deal of attention. Because of their reduced size, they behave like tiny capacitors so that there is an energy penalty when adding an electron to the NP which suppresses the electric current at a potential lower than a threshold value. This phenomenon is known as Coulomb blockade (CB) and allows the transport of electrons to be modulated through an external gate provided that the energy penalty is higher than the thermal energy. Re-irradiation With Carbon Ion Radiotherapy for Pelvic Rectal Cancer Recurrences in Patients Previously Irradiated to the Pelvis

Background/Aim: Re-irradiation of locally recurrent rectal cancer poses challenges due to the proximity of critical organs, such as the bowel. This study aimed at evaluating the safety and efficacy of re-irradiation with Carbon Ion Radiotherapy (CIRT) in rectal cancer patients with local recurrence. Patients and Methods: Between 2014 and 2018, 14 patients were treated at the National Center of Oncological Hadrontherapy (CNAO Foundation) with CIRT for locally recurrent rectal cancer. We report our personal experience of a series of 313 thyroidectomy with intraoperative identification of ILN. UNLABELLED PURPOSE of this study was to determine the prevalence of bronchiectasis in patients suffering from alpha-1-antitrypsin deficiency and to compare its extent with the frequency of infections. MATERIAL AND METHODS High-resolution CT examinations (HRCT) of 23 patients with alpha-1-antitrypsin deficiency were retrospectively assessed for extent, severity and localisation of bronchiectasis, bronchial wall thickening and extent of emphysema. Molecular changes in borderline ovarian tumor (BOT) indicate linkage of this disease to type I ovarian tumors (low-grade ovarian carcinomas). This study determined the prevalence and association of mutations in BRCA1, BRCA2, PALB2, RAD51C, and CHEK2 with the risk of BOTs. The proposed procedure executes automatically three tests using only the available PWM inverter control technique to obtain the required motor supply voltages. A novel numerical meshless approach for electric potential estimation in transcranial stimulation

In this paper, a first application of the method of fundamental solutions in estimating the electric potential and the spatial current density distribution in the brain due to transcranial stimulation, is presented. The coupled boundary value p roblems for the electric potential are solved in a meshless way, so avoiding the use of grid based numerical methods. A multi-spherical geometry is considered and numerical results are discussed.

Two-loop electroweak corrections to the ρ parameter beyond the leading approximation

We show that in the framework of the pinch technique the universal part of the $\rho$ parameter can be meaningfully defined, beyond one loop. The universal part so obtained satisfies the crucial requirements of gauge-independence, finiteness, and process-independence, even when subleading contributions of the top quark are included. The mechanism which enforces the aforementioned properties is explained in detail, and several subtle field theoretical issues are discussed.
