On the design of a high current power supply for superconducting magnet
2002
The purpose of the article is the description, considerations of design and presentation of experimental results of a high current (1000 A) and low voltage (up to 15 V) converter for the excitement of superconducting corrector magnets in particle accelerators. The power source, which is based on a ZVT converter, presents high efficiency, small output ripple, excellent regulation of line, and fulfilment of the EMC normative (VDE 0871 A).
The Results of Changing the Current Solution Concept of Universal Motor Gear Reducers with Helical Gears
2021
By analysing and comparing the existing solutions of universal gear reducers with helical gears of the leading manufacturers, it can be noticed the effort to increase the load capacity of the gear reducer within the same axis height. In this way, the manufacturers can offer smaller (cheaper) gear reducers, as well as to simultaneously increase the values of the largest gear ratios. This concept enables the offer of lower-stage (cheaper) gear reducers with higher gear ratios in certain segments of gear ratios. By these efforts, it is reached the maximum, but the further increase is possible only by changing the current concept of universal gear drives. Within this paper, it is given an overv…
High-speed solid state fluorination of Nb2O5 yields NbO2F and Nb3O7F with photocatalytic activity for oxygen evolution from water
2021
Solid state reactions are slow because the diffusion of atoms or ions through the reactant, intermediate and crystalline product phases is the rate-limiting step. This requires days or even weeks of high temperature treatment, and consumption of large amounts of energy. We employed spark-plasma sintering, an engineering technique that is used for high-speed consolidation of powders with a pulsed electric current passing through the sample to carry out the fluorination of niobium oxide in minute intervals. The approach saves time and large amounts of waste energy. Moreover, it allows the preparation of fluorinated niobium oxides on a gram scale using poly(tetrafluoroethylene) (®Teflon) scrap…
Blessed Mary, Forgive Us Our Deficits
2013
Many studies have explored the medium-term determinants of current account balances. This paper contributes to the existing literature by introducing religious variables that until now have been omitted. We propose that Catholic countries tend to run current account deficits. This result remains robust even if we include both the official financial flows and the variables measuring the quality of institutions. In total we control for close to all of the variables that have been included in previous studies. To rationalize our result we consulted the World Values Survey and discovered that Roman Catholics do not consider thrift as important as other religious groups.
Primary Frequency Control in the Power System of Continental Europe including the Dynamics of the HVDC Link France-Great Britain
2020
The paper presents a study of primary frequency control within the power system of Continental Europe (CE) including the dynamics of the high voltage direct current (HVDC) link between France and Great Britain (GB). The large-scale dynamic model of the CE system originally provided by ENTSO-E is extended with a more detailed representation of the whole HVDC interconnection. The dynamics of the GB synchronous area is also considered in the analysis, implementing a system equivalent suitable for primary frequency control studies. The opportunity of frequency containment reserve exchange between the two areas through the link is also investigated, considering supplementary frequency controls w…
