English writing instruction in Norwegian upper secondary schools

AbstractThis article presents a study of current English writing instruction practices in a selection of Norwegian upper secondary schools and discusses how this draws upon ideas within genre-pedagogy. The data comprises individual and focus-group interviews, observation reports and some teaching material. The study shows that English teachers focus on teaching genre requirements and adjustment of language to task and context. However, despite agreeing on the importance of teaching how to write specific text-types and to adjust to the situation at hand, there seems to be different opinions about how detailed instruction should be. International audience; Dans le cadre d'une journée scientifique organisée à l'ESPé de Lyon, une réflexion a été engagée par les acteurs du dispositif "Promotion de la Santé des enfants par le renforcement des Compétences psychosociales (CPS)" atour de la question de la mesure et de l'évaluation de ces compétences. Cette communication propose, à partir d'une recherche menée dans le cadre d'une thèse en Sciences de l'éducation, de revenir sur cette question de l'évaluation des compétences (psycho)sociales à partir du travail de définition théorique de la notion d'une part et, d'autre part, d'un point de vue technique et empirique.

The position as well as the width of the atomic wave packet passing through an optical cavity may affect the matter-field interaction. As a result, the internal dynamics of a two-level atom, such as the Rabi oscillations or the collapse and revival phenomenon, may be strongly modified with respect to the standard Jaynes-Cummings model. In particular, for a sufficiently large spread of the atomic position, the atomic population inversion displays the characteristic ringing behavior of the Bessel function ${\mathit{J}}_{0}$ differently from the usual full Rabi oscillation.
Nanoscale Heat Engine Beyond the Carnot Limit

We consider a quantum Otto cycle for a time-dependent harmonic oscillator coupled to a squeezed thermal reservoir. We show that the efficiency at maximum power increases with the degree of squeezing, surpassing the standard Carnot limit and approaching unity exponentially for large squeezing parameters. We further propose an experimental scheme to implement such a model system by using a single trapped ion in a linear Paul trap with special geometry. Our analytical investigations are supported by Monte Carlo simulations that demonstrate the feasibility of our proposal. Large amplitude conformational change is one of the features of biomolecular recognition and is also the basis for allosteric effects and signal transduction in functional biological systems. However, synthetic receptors with controllable conformational changes are rare. In this article, we present a thorough study on the host–guest chemistry of a conformationally adaptive macrocycle, namely per-O-ethoxyzorb[4]arene (ZB4). Similar to per-O-ethoxyoxatub[4]arene, ZB4 is capable of accommodating a wide range of organic cations. Abstract This research studied and compared different construction techniques for the road subgrade, embankment and pavement of different types of roundabout intersections in order to assess their environmental sustainability. A Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) was carried out on double lane, turbo- and flower roundabouts. We considered virgin materials and reclaimed asphalt pavement (RAP) for the pavement construction. Also the environmental effects due to in situ lime stabilization of fine-grained soils were assessed in order to reduce the use of virgin material in road subgrades. Banking Competition, Housing Prices and Macroeconomic Stability

We develop a dynamic general equilibrium model with an imperfectly competitive bank-loans market and collateral constraints that tie investors credit capacity to the value of their real estate holdings. Banks set optimal lending rates taking into account the effects of their price policies on their market share and on the volume of funds demanded by each customer. Lending margins have a significant effect on aggregate variables. Over the long run, fostering banking competition increases total consumption and output by triggering a reallocation of available collateral towards investors. Abstract The paper explores how demographic changes in human populations may impact on tourism decision-making of households over their life cycle. By means of hurdle models, the study focuses respectively on the decision to travel domestically or abroad and investigates if statistically significant differences exist as to the impact of age and cohort on the decision to travel and tourism expenditure. Using a vast dataset on Italian Household Expenditures over the period 1997–2007 the empirical results show that demographic aspects do have a strong effect on the tourism behaviour of families and that cohort and age effects act differently on the decision of households to make a trip and on …
