Abstract The return to normal marine conditions in the Mediterranean Sea after the end of the Messinian Salinity Crisis (MSC), that led to the deposition of thick evaporitic succession followed by settlement of brackish to freshwater conditions of the “Lago-Mare”, is still subject to extensive debate between two opposite scenarios. One scenario implies an abrupt reflooding through the Gibraltar gateway of the Mediterranean Sea previously disconnected from the world ocean and partly desiccated. The study of Planktonic Foraminifera abundances permits to obtain climatic curves on the basis of percentage ratio between tropical and temperate/polar forms. Climatic changes were controlled by several phenomena as: (i) Milankovitch's cycles, produced by variations of astronomical parameters such as precession, obliquity and eccentricity; (ii) continental geodynamic evolution and orogenic belt; (iii) variations of atmospheric and oceanic currents; (iv) volcanic eruptions; (v) meteor impacts. The goal of my PhD studies was to synthesize new compounds for possible medical imaging applications. The first part of my thesis focused on the synthesis of heteroleptic ligands to achieve the chelation of two different metals aimed at addressing two types of medical imaging. We first synthesized porphyrins, which are well-known for the chelation of numerous transition metals. We focused on copper, whose copper-64 isotope is a β+ emitter usable in Positron Emission Tomography (PET). These porphyrins have been coupled with a DOTA derivative. Selective recognition of small hydrogen bond acceptors by a calix[6]arene-based molecular container

Selective molecular recognition is of primary importance for applications such as sensing and separation of chemicals. This work describes the host-guest and crystallisation properties of a penta-carbamated calix[6]arene designed as a molecular container with a H-donating recognition group directed towards the heart of the cavity. As demonstrated by NMR spectroscopy and X-ray diffraction studies, this macrocyclic receptor can selectively recognise small H-bond acceptors through one or two hydrogen bonds, the guests nesting inside the polyaromatic cavity surrounded by eleven bulky tert-butyl groups.

Abstract Temperature-programmed reduction (TPR) and temperature-programmed oxidation (TPO) have been used to study the various cobalt species formed in a cobalt catalyst (Co 1 wt.%) supported on alumina-baria, with composition Al2O3(80 wt.%)–BaO (20 wt.%). The catalyst was synthesized by incipient-wetness impregnation of the support with a water solution of cobalt acetylacetonate and calcined at 550 °C for 5 h. In order to investigate the structure and morphology of the sample, XRD, BET and SEM analyses were performed. Trends and cycles in U.S. job mobility

Recent studies document a decline in U.S. labor-market fluidity from as early as the 1970s on. Making use of the Annual Social and Economic (ASEC) supplement to the Current Population Survey (CPS), I uncover a pronounced increase in job-to-job mobility from the 1970s to the 1990s, i.e., the annual share of continuously employed job-to-job movers rises from 5.9 percent of the labor force in 1975–1979 to 8.8 percent in 1995–1999. Job-to-job mobility exhibits a downward trend only since the turn of the millennium. Abstract The rearrangement of eight new Z -arylhydrazones of 3-benzoyl-5-phenylisoxazoles ( 3d – k ) into the relevant 2-aryl-4-phenacyl-2 H -1,2,3-triazoles ( 4d – k ) in dioxane/water solution at different proton concentrations has been quantitatively studied in a wide temperature range (293–333 K). The data collected together with some our previous ones on compounds 3a – c have allowed a deep study of the substituent effects on the course of the rearrangement, thus increasing our knowledge on the Boulton–Katritzky reactions in isoxazole derivatives and on the temperature effects on free energy relationships.
Political determinants of the fiscal sustainability: evidence from six individual developed countries.

This paper aims at assessing the fiscal sustainability and its political determinants in six countries, namely France, Germany, Greece, Italy, the United Kingdom, the United States. First, using the recent sustainability approach of Bohn (1998) based on fiscal reaction function, econometric findings using OLS reveal a positive response of the primary surplus to changes in debt in several countries. In other words, fiscal policy is sustainable in France, Italy, the United Kingdom, the United States, but not in Germany and Greece. The photochemistry of some 3-N-alkylamino-5-perfluoroalkyl-1,2,4-oxadiazoles in the presence of nitrogen nucleophiles such as ammonia and primary and secondary aliphatic amines has been investigated.
