Abstract Purpose Bone metastases are a serious aggravation for patients suffering from cancer. Therefore, early recognition of bone metastases is of great interest for further treatment of patients. Bisphosphonates are widely used for scintigraphy of bone lesions with 99m Tc. Using the 68 Ge/ 68 Ga generator together with a macroyclic bisphosphonate a comparable PET-tracer comes into focus. A population of prenatally generated cells in the rat paleocortex maintains an immature neuronal phenotype into adulthood.

New neurons in the adult brain transiently express molecules related to neuronal development, such as the polysialylated form of neural cell adhesion molecule, or doublecortin (DCX). These molecules are also expressed by a cell population in the rat paleocortex layer II, whose origin, phenotype, and function are not clearly understood. We have classified most of these cells as a new cell type termed tangled cell. Some cells with the morphology of semilunar-pyramidal transitional neurons were also found among this population, as well as some scarce cells resembling semilunar, pyramidal. and fusiform neurons. Exposure to low levels of environmental contaminants, including pesticides, induces neurodevelopmental toxicity. Environmental and food contaminants can reach the brain of the fetus, affecting brain development and leading to neurological dysfunction. The pesticide endosulfan is a persistent pollutant, and significant levels still remain detectable in the environment although its use is banned in some countries. In rats, endosulfan exposure during brain development alters motor activity, coordination, learning, and memory, even several months after uptake, and does so in a sex-dependent way. Metabolic activation of the racemic benzo[c]chrysene-trans-9,10-, benzo[g]chrysene-trans-11,12- and dibenzo[a,l]pyrene-trans-11,12-dihydrodiols to fjord region syn- and anti-dihydrodiol epoxides by microsomes of Aroclor 1254-treated Sprague-Dawley rats has been examined. Since the fjord region dihydrodiol epoxides were hydrolytically unstable under the experimental conditions, their enzymatic formation was determined by analyzing the tetraols as their products of acidic hydrolysis upon addition of perchloric acid. Abstract Vicinal diol-epoxides are the best established carcinogenic metabolites of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons. Numerous studies have demonstrated their high genotoxic activity in various in vitro test systems. However, in vivo mutagenicity data are not available. The fjor-region diol-epoxides of benzo[ c ]chrysene combine high mutagenic activity in vitro with hydrolytic stability. Metabolism of 3-hydroxychrysene by rat liver microsomal preparations

3-Hydroxychrysene, a metabolite of the polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon (PAH) chrysene, was metabolised by rat liver microsomal preparations obtained from Arochlor 1254-pretreated rats. Eight major metabolites were isolated by high performance liquid chromatography and characterised by u.v. spectroscopy and a variety of mass spectrometric techniques. Rat liver dihydrodiol dehydrogenase (DDH, E.C. 1.3.1.20) has recently been shown to oxidize the highly carcinogenic benz[a]anthracene-3,4- dihydrodiol in an NADP(+)-dependent reaction to its corresponding catechol. The present study is a systematic investigation of the substrate specificity of the purified enzyme towards synthetic trans-dihydrodiol metabolites of phenanthrene, benz[a]anthracene, chrysene, dibenz[a, h]anthracene and benzo[a]pyrene. The visual orientation memory of Drosophila requires Foraging (PKG) upstream of Ignorant (RSK2) in ring neurons of the central complex

Orientation and navigation in a complex environment requires path planning and recall to exert goal-driven behavior. Walking Drosophila flies possess a visual orientation memory for attractive targets which is localized in the central complex of the adult brain. Here we show that this type of working memory requires the cGMP-dependent protein kinase encoded by the foraging gene in just one type of ellipsoid-body ring neurons. Moreover, genetic and epistatic interaction studies provide evidence that Foraging functions upstream of the Ignorant Ribosomal-S6 Kinase 2, thus revealing a novel neuronal signaling pathway necessary for this type of memory in Drosophila.
