Mechanical resistance of zirconium implant abutments: A review of the literature

2010

The increase of aesthetic demands, together with the successful outcome of current implants, has renewed interest in the search for new materials with enough mechanical properties and better aesthetic qualities than the materials customarily used in implanto-prosthetic rehabilitation. Among these materials, zirconium has been used in different types of implants, including prosthetic abutments. The aim of the present review is to analyse current scientific evidence supporting the use of this material for the above mentioned purposes. We carried out the review of the literature published in the last ten years (2000 through 2010) of in vitro trials of dynamic and static loading of zirconium ab…

Organometallic Complexes with Biological Molecules, VI. Diorganotin(IV) and Triorganotin(IV) Ampicillin and Methicillin Derivatives: Spectroscopic In…

1996

Derivatives of D(-)-α-aminobenzylpenicillin (ampicillin) and of 2,6-dimethoxyphenylpenicillin (methicillin) with diorgano- and triorgano-tin(IV) moieties have been synthesized. The stoichiometries of the compounds obtained were of the type R 2 SnCIL.H 2 O, R 3 SnCILNa.H 2 O [L=ampicillin or methicillin monoanion; R=Me, Bu, Ph] and R 2 Snampic 2 . 2H 2 O (ampic=ampicillin; R=Me, Bu, Ph). For R 2 SnCIL.H 2 O and R 3 SnCILNa.-H 2 O, infrared (IR) data suggest five-coordination around the tin(IV) atom; in R 2 Snampic 2 .2H 2 O six-coordination is most likely to occur. Thermogravimetric (TG) analysis excludes any involvement in the coordination of tin(IV) by water molecules, in any of the compou…

Synthetic, structural and biochemical studies of polynuclear platinum(II) complexes with heterocyclic ligands.

2008

"Non-classical" di- and trinuclear Pt(II) complexes with polydentate nitrogen ligands; ionic [(PtCl(2))(2)(tptz)(2)(mu-PtClNCPh)]Cl (1) [tptz =2,4,6-tris(2-pyridyl)-1,3,5-triazine], [(PtCl(2))(2)(bptz)(2)(mu-Pt)]Cl(2) (2) [bptz = 3,6-bis(2-pyridyl)-1,2,4,5-tetrazine] and neutral [(PtCl(2))(2)(tptz)(2)(mu-PtCl(2))](H(2)O)(4) (3), [(PtCl(2))(2)(mu-tppz)](CHCl(3)) (4) [tppz = 2,3,5,6-tetra(2-pyridyl)pyrazine] complexes, have been prepared and structurally characterized. The neutral tptz and tppz complexes present three and two separate PtCl(2) moieties, respectively, in a cis position, presumably acting in a bifunctional mode towards DNA; the cationic tptz and bptz complexes contain monofuncti…

Inverted molecular cups: 1-D and 2-D Ag(I) coordination polymers from resorcinarene bis-thiacrowns

2016

Resorcinarene bis-thiacrown hosts 1–3 were prepared and crystallized with silver trifluoroacetate yielding one and two dimensional Ag coordination polymers. The complexation of silver in exo-cavity fashion folds the thiacrown bridges inwards transforming the resorcinarene hosts into inverted molecular cups. The silver cations were coordinated to the resorcinarene ligands and trifluoroacetate anions, which act as monodentate or bidendate bridging ligands between the metal ions. Argentophilic Ag⋯Ag (2.93–3.38 A) interactions supported by two bridging carboxylate anions were found in two of the structures, whereas longer Ag⋯Ag distances were observed if only one anion connected the silver cati…

Fast redox-triggered shuttling motions in a copper rotaxane based on a phenanthroline–terpyridine conjugate

2014

Fast shuttling motions in solution have been observed by cyclic voltammetry in a Cu(I/II)-based [2] rotaxane. In the reported system, the different coordination preferences of both copper oxidation states are exploited to promote the electrochemically-triggered gliding of the ring from a tetra to a pentacoordinated site and vice versa. The thread of this rotaxane consists of a tridentate 2,2':6',2''-terpyridine chelating unit directly bonded through its 5-position to the 3-position of the bidentate 1,10-phenanthroline unit. This distribution reduces to a minimum the distance between the two coordination sites and lessens the congestion around the tetrahedral environment. These two factors h…

Effects of preorganization in the chelation of UO22+ by hydroxamate ligands: cyclic PIPO– vs linear NMA–

2018

International audience; Many siderophores incorporate as bidentate chelating subunits linear and more seldomly cyclic hydroxamate groups. In this work, a comparative study of the uranyl binding properties in aqueous solution of two monohydroxamic acids, the prototypical linear N-methylacetohydroxamic acid (NMAH) and the cyclic analog 1-hydroxypiperidine-2-one (PIPOH), has been carried out. The complex [UO2(PIPO)(2)(H2O)] crystallized from slightly acidic water solutions (pH < 5), and its molecular structure was determined by X-ray diffraction. The uranyl speciation in the presence of both ligands has been thoroughly investigated in a 0.1 M KNO3 medium at 298.2 K by the combined use of four …

Syntheses, structural characterisation and magnetic properties of Fe(ii) and Mn(ii) compounds with the pentacyanopropenido ligand; structural charact…

2006

International audience; Reactions between the metal(II) salts [M(CH3CN)n](BF4)2 (M = Fe, n = 6; M = Mn, n = 4) and some organic anionic polynitriles were studied. With the pentacyanopropenide anion pcp− [pcp− = (NC)2CC(CN)C(CN)2−], were obtained, according to the experimental conditions, the new complexes [M(pcp)2(H2O)4] (1, M = Fe; 2, M = Mn) and [M(pcp)2] (3, M = Fe; 4 = Mn). Use of the hexacyano-3,4-diazahexadienediide anion [(NC)2CC(CN)NNC(CN)C(CN)22−] instead of pcp− did not afford polynitrile metal complexes but led to a new organic derivative 5, of formula C10N8H2. Crystallographic studies indicated that the isostructural compounds 1 and 2 involve discrete monomeric units with pcp li…

Mononuclear Perfluoroalkyl-Heterocyclic Complexes of Pd(II): Synthesis, Structural Characterization and Antimicrobial Activity

2020

Two mononuclear Pd(II) complexes [PdCl2(pfptp)] (1) and [PdCl2(pfhtp)] (2), with ligands 2-(3-perfluoropropyl-1-methyl-1,2,4-triazole-5yl)-pyridine (pfptp) and 2-(3-perfluoroheptyl-1-methyl-1,2,4-triazole-5yl)-pyridine (pfhtp), were synthesized and structurally characterized. The two complexes showed a bidentate coordination of the ligand occurring through N atom of pyridine ring and N4 atom of 1,2,4-triazole. Both complexes showed antimicrobial activity when tested against both Gram-negative and Gram-positive bacterial strains.

Comparison and improvement of the existing methods for the determination of aflatoxins in human serum by LC-MS/MS

2010

Aflatoxins are toxic metabolites of some Aspergillus flavus, A. parasiticus and A. nomius strains that occur in many foods and feeds. Aflatoxin B1 is the most abundant and toxic member of the family, and it is also the most potent hepatocarcinogen known. In order to estimate the potential human health risk of aflatoxin B1, it is useful to measure its blood concentration. In this work a rapid liquid chromatography coupled to mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) method for the simultaneous determination of aflatoxins B1, B2, G1 and G2 and its metabolites, aflatoxins M1 and M2 in human serum, is proposed. Small serum volumes have been used and the extracts have been obtained without any clean-up proce…

New micromethod combining miniaturized matrix solid-phase dispersion and in-tube in-valve solid-phase microextraction for estimating polycyclic aroma…

2008

Abstract Miniaturized matrix solid-phase dispersion (MSPD) was developed for the extraction of common polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) from bivalve samples (100 mg, dry weight). Additional clean-up and analyte enrichment was accomplished by in-tube solid-phase microextraction (SPME). For this purpose the extracts collected after MSPD were diluted with water and injected into a capillary column coated with the extractive phase. This capillary column was connected to the analytical column by means of a switching valve. Separation and quantification of the PAHs were carried out using a monolithic LC column and fluorescence detection. Since the in-tube SPME device allowed the processing …
