congenital true cystic mass of the pancreas in a Young woman: which treatment?

2013

Aim. We report a case of congenital true pancreatic cyst with high level of enzymatic activity, rarely seen in young and children which, to the best of our knowledge, rarely has previously been reported. A young girl was admitted to our clinic with a history of abdominal swelling and pain during exercise for many months. A mobile, smooth, non-tender mass was palpated on the left side of the abdomen during physical examination. Ultrasonography and computed tomography imaging revealed a not subdivide cystic mass sized 11.51x8.2 cm. Methods. Surgical treatment was considered, but given the young age of the patient, we declined for fear of complications. Therefore, US-guided percutaneous draina…

Odontogenic Cysts: Analysis of 2.944 cases in Chile

Introduction: Odontogenic cysts constitute a group of frequent intraosseous lesions characteristic in the maxillary bones and one of the main causes of the destruction of these bones. In Chile there are no retrospective studies of these lesions as a whole. Objective: The purpose of this study is to determine the frequency of these lesions in so far as they were diagnosed and registered in the Referral Institute for Oral Pathology (IREPO) of the University of Chile in two age groups as well as to analyze and to compare the data obtained with the data published in previous studies. Material and Method: We studied the records from IREPO of the University of Chile for the period between 1976 an…

Immunohistochemical analysis of the patterns of p53 and PCNA expression in odontogenic cystic lesions

2008

Objective: the role of p53 expression in odontogenic lesions has not been fully determined, but has been associated with cell proliferation. The purpose of this study was to analyze p53 and proliferating cell nuclear antigen (PCNA) expression in 4 different odontogenic lesions. Design: expression of p53 and PCNA was analyzed in radicular and dentigerous cysts, odontogenic keratocysts, and calcifying odontogenic cysts (Gorlin cysts) using monoclonal antibodies for detection of p53 and PCNA. Results: PCNA expression was significantly greater in the basal layer of radicular cysts and in the suprabasal layer of odontogenic keratocysts; the percentage of p53 positive cells was significantly grea…
