Safely Dissolvable and Healable Active Packaging Films Based on Alginate and Pectin

Extensive usage of long-lasting petroleum based plastics for short-lived application such as packaging has raised concerns regarding their role in environmental pollution. In this research, we have developed active, healable, and safely dissolvable alginate-pectin based biocomposites that have potential applications in food packaging. The morphological study revealed the rough surface of these biocomposite films. Tensile properties indicated that the fabricated samples have mechanical properties in the range of commercially available packaging films while possessing excellent healing efficiency. Effect of ultraviolet and moisture action on biodegradable polymers and their blend

In this work, the suitability of polylactic acid (PLA), polybutylene adipate terephthalate (PBAT) and PBAT/PLA blend samples to outdoor applications were investigated in terms of mechanical, morphological and visual properties in presence of ultraviolet action and water, finding that PLA in particular can be actually considered for such applications.

Plastic mulching is widely used in many regions of the world for growing melons. The winter melon is largely grown in the hilly countryside of the Mediterranean island of Sicily (Italy) where mulching plastic films enhance early and total yields. However, removing and disposal of polyethylene plastic mulches after use represent a major disadvantage and an environmental concern. The guarded fragment with transitive guards, (GF+TG), is an extension of the guarded frag- ment of 9rst-order logic, GF, in which certain predicates are required to be transitive, transitive predicate letters appear only in guards of the quanti9ers and the equality symbol may appear everywhere. We prove that the decision problem for (GF+TG) is decidable. Moreover, we show that the problem is in 2EXPTIME. This result is optimal since the satis9ability problem for GF is 2EXPTIME-complete (J. Symbolic Logic 64 (1999) 1719-1742). Feasibility of finite and infinite paths in data dependent programs

This paper considers the feasibility of finite and infinite paths in programs in two simple programming languages. The language LBASE allows to express the dependencies of real time systems on integer data, the language LTIM can model quantitative timing constraints in r.t.s. specifications. It is proven that the problem of whether a given LBASE or LTIM program has an infinite feasible path (i.e. whether it can exhibit an infinite behaviour) is decidable. The possibilities to characterise the sets of all feasible finite and infinite paths in LBASE and LTIM programs are also discussed. Tēmas aktualitāte: Sakarā ar ādas onkoloģisko saslimšanas gadījumu pieaugumu Latvijā, tai skaitā melanomas, tiek pievērsta uzmanība ādas veselībai, ādas jaunveidojumu savlaicīgai diagnostikai, un protams ārstēšanai, kas lielā mērā nosaka pacienta dzīvildzi. Ļaundabīga melanoma ir viena no biežākajām ar nāvi saistītajām slimībām. Darba mērķis: Izvērtēt un izvēlēties melanomas ārstēšanas taktiku, un noteikt melanomas dzīvildzi pēc tās. Materiāli un metodes: Aprakstošs, retrospektīvs pētījums. Conservation ecology of the black stork in Latvia

Autors pētīja melnā stārķa ligzdošanas ekoloģiju un ligzdošanas sekmes ietekmējošus faktorus Latvijā 1979.–2010. g. Analīzei izmantotas 1634 ligzdu kontroles, ligzdu pamešanas iemesli analizēti, izmantojot datus par 301 ligzdu 257 teritorijās. DDT ietekmes noskaidrošanai materiāls ievākts arī Igaunijā, Polijā, Vācijā, Čehijā un Beļģijā. Darbā ir 35 tabulas un 30 attēli. Melnā stārķa ligzdošanas sekmes ir būtiski pasliktinājušās. Svarīgākais ligzdošanas dzīvotnes nosacījums ir iepriekšējās paaudzes priežu un ozolu, bet mežos, kur ozolu nav, lielu apšu klātbūtne.
