Powers and Fundamental Rights in Cyber Security

2015

Protection of privacy and confidential communications are crucial fundamental rights in cyber security. The protection of privacy and confidential communications are twofold in the meaning that active security steps in communications may require interference with confidential communications. The detection and profiling of potential threats may raise suspects on innocent participants of communications. The NCSC-FI inside the Communications Authority has the initial task and powers to monitor the cyber security. The bill for the Code of Information Society introduces new obligations for information security and preparation for emergency situations. If new powers will be granted to authorities…

Calculation of the chemical potential and the activity coefficient of two layers of CO2 adsorbed on a graphite surface.

2014

We study the adsorption of carbon dioxide at a graphite surface using the new Small System Method, and find that for the temperature range between 300 K and 550 K most relevant for CO2 separation; adsorption takes place in two distinct thermodynamic layers defined according to Gibbs. We calculate the chemical potential and the activity coefficient of both layers directly from the simulations. Based on thermodynamic relations, the entropy and enthalpy of the CO2 adsorbed layers are also obtained. Their values indicate that there is a trade-off between entropy and enthalpy when a molecule chooses for one of the two layers. The first layer is a densely packed monolayer of relatively constant e…

Human voice pitch measures are robust across a variety of speech recordings: methodological and theoretical implications

2021

Fundamental frequency ( f o ), perceived as voice pitch, is the most sexually dimorphic, perceptually salient and intensively studied voice parameter in human nonverbal communication. Thousands of studies have linked human f o to biological and social speaker traits and life outcomes, from reproductive to economic. Critically, researchers have used myriad speech stimuli to measure f o and infer its functional relevance, from individual vowels to longer bouts of spontaneous speech. Here, we acoustically analysed f o in nearly 1000 affectively neutral speech utterances (vowels, words, counting, greetings, read paragraphs and free spontaneous speech) produced by the same 154 men and women, ag…

Inability of Laplace's law to estimate sub-bandage pressures after applying a compressive bandage: a clinical study

2021

Objective: The aim of the current study was to compare pressures exerted on the lower limb by a high compression bandage as recorded by sub-bandage sensors and those estimated by Laplace's law. The correlation between pressures obtained in each anatomical zone and the corresponding limb perimeters were explored. Method: For the measurement of sub-bandage pressures, four anatomical zones in the lower right limb were determined. Pressures were recorded by nine pneumatic sensors and a PicoPress transducer. A two-layer compression bandage system (UrgoK2, Urgo Group, France) was used for the dressing. Pressures were registered in supine position. Sensor pressures were compared with those estimat…

GINA 2019: a fundamental change in asthma management

2019

GINA no longer recommends treating adults/adolescents with asthma with short-acting bronchodilators alone. Instead, they should receive symptom-driven (in mild asthma) or a daily corticosteroid-containing inhaler, to reduce risk of severe exacerbations.http://bit.ly/310LLzE

Possible paths to increase detection of child sexual abuse in child and adolescent psychiatry: a meta-synthesis of survivors’ and health professional…

2022

Background: Efforts are directed both towards prevention and early detection of Child sexual abuse (CSA). Yet, only about 50% of CSA survivors disclose before adulthood, and health professionals rarely are the first disclosure recipients. Increasing the detection rate of CSA within the context of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry (CAP) therefore represents a significant secondary prevention strategy. However, facilitating CSA disclosure when the survivor is reluctant to tell is a highly complex and emotionally demanding clinical task. We therefore argue that efforts to increase detection rates of CSA within CAP need to rest on knowledge of how both survivors and health professionals experienc…

The influence of the nature of the surface oxide on the adhesive fracture energy of aluminium-bonded joints as measured by T-peel tests

2008

Abstract Modification of aluminium alloy substrates microstructure and morphology by depositing new oxide layers on top of the metal surface has been investigated, with the aim of improving adhesion. The effect of treating the metal with boiling water or immersing it in a cerate bath has been studied by means of electron microscopy, contact angle measurements and peeling tests. The formation of pseudoboehmite layers or cerium conversion coatings both led to an increase in joint's adhesive fracture energy and more durable adhesive bonds with respect to joints obtained with “mechanically grinded only” substrates. Differences in the performance of the bonded joints has been discussed in terms …

Practical strategies for stable operation of HFF-QCM in continuous air flow

2013

Currently there are a few fields of application using quartz crystal microbalances (QCM). Because of environmental conditions and insufficient resolution of the microbalance, chemical sensing of volatile organic compounds in an open system was as yet not possible. In this study we present strategies on how to use 195 MHz fundamental quartz resonators for a mobile sensor platform to detect airborne analytes. Commonly the use of devices with a resonant frequency of about 10 MHz is standard. By increasing the frequency to 195 MHz the frequency shift increases by a factor of almost 400. Unfortunately, such kinds of quartz crystals tend to exhibit some challenges to obtain a reasonable signal-to…
