Palladium Catalyzed [3+2] Cycloaddition of Vinyl Aziridine and Indane-1,3-diones: Diastereo- and Enantioselective Access to Spiro-Pyrrolidines

2020

A mild and efficient palladium-catalyzed [3+2] cycloaddition of vinylaziridine and indane-1,3-diones has been realized. The resulting spiro-pyrrolidines were provided in excellent yields and, with the introduction of the leucine-derived phosphine ligand, moderate to good enantio- and diastereoselectivities.

Spatial and temporal variation of community composition and species cover following dune restoration in the Devesa de Albufera (Valencia, Spain).

2015

Plant populations were reintroduced to the coastal dune bar of the Devesa de Albufera from 1988 to 2004; different coastline sections received different species composition and cover. With the aim to detect spatial and temporal variation of floristic diversity, we compared current species composition and cover across the length of the Devesa and across the dune bar with those imposed at the time of restoration. Non-metric multidimensional scaling (NMDS) detected significant differences both across the dune faces and across the coast sections. Differences across the dune faces reflect the sea-inland ecological gradient and resulted from a spatial rearrangement of plant populations: Calystegi…

A Twin Protection Effect? Explaining Twin Survival Advantages with a Two-Process Mortality Model

2016

Twin studies that focus on the correlation in age-at-death between twin pairs have yielded important insights into the heritability and role of genetic factors in determining lifespan, but less attention is paid to the biological and social role of zygosity itself in determining survival across the entire life course. Using data from the Danish Twin Registry and the Human Mortality Database, we show that monozygotic twins have greater cumulative survival proportions at nearly every age compared to dizygotic twins and the Danish general population. We examine this survival advantage by fitting these data with a two-process mortality model that partitions survivorship patterns into extrinsic …

Longitudinal Investigation into Genetics in the Conservation of Metabolic Phenotypes in Danish and Chinese Twins

2016

Longitudinal twin studies on long term conservation of individual metabolic phenotypes can help to explore the genetic and environmental basis in maintaining metabolic homeostasis and metabolic health. We performed a longitudinal twin study on 12 metabolic phenotypes from Danish twins followed up for 12 years and Chinese twins traced for 7 years. The study covered a relatively large sample of 502 pairs of Danish adult twins with a mean age at intake of 38 years and a total of 181 Chinese adult twin pairs with a mean baseline age of 39.5 years. Bivariate twin models were fitted to the longitudinal measurements taken at two time points (at baseline and follow-up) to estimate the genetic and e…

24. Aminooxyacetate, an inhibitor of H2S production, potentiates lindane-induced convulsions in rats

2013

Purpose: H 2 S is a gaseous molecule recently recognized as endogenously produced neurotransmitter with different, still not well known, physiological and pathological roles. Cystathionine- β -synthase (CBS) is a major enzyme responsible for H 2 S production in the brain. The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of aminooxyacetate, potent CBS inhibitor, on convulsions induced by lindane in rats. Methods: Adult male Wistar albino rats were intraperitoneally (i.p.) treated with lindane 4 mg/kg and observed for convulsive behavioral manifestations during next 30 min. Aminooxyacetate (0.25 mmol/kg) or saline were injected 30 min prior to lindane administration. Seizure behavior was …

Human exposure and risk assessment to airborne pesticides in a rural French community

2016

Abstract Outdoor air samples collected during the pesticide agricultural application period (spring and summer) from a rural community in the Centre Region (France) were analyzed to investigate temporal variation of atmospheric pesticide levels (2006–2013) and human inhalation exposure in adults, children and infants. The most frequently detected pesticides were herbicides (trifluralin, pendimethalin), fungicides (chlorothalonil) and insecticides (lindane and α-endosulfan). The three currently-used pesticides most frequently detected presented concentrations ranging from 0.18 to 1128.38 ng m − 3 ; 0.13 to 117.32 ng m − 3 and 0.16 to 25.80 ng m − 3 for chlorothalonil, pendimethalin and trifl…

Prenatal Exposure to Organochlorine Compounds and Birth Size

2011

Objective: To investigate the possible association between birth size and cord concentrations of some organochlorine compounds (OCs), including 4,4′-dichlorodiphenyltrichloroethane (DDT), 4,4′-1,1-dichloro-2,2-bis(p-dichlorodiphenyl)ethylene (DDE), hexachlorobenzene (HCB), β-hexachlorocyclohexane (β-HCH), 4 polychlorinated biphenyl (PCB) congeners (118, 138, 153, and 180), and their sum (ΣPCBs) in a birth cohort in Valencia, Spain. Study Design: A total of 494 mothers and their newborns (born 2003–2006) participated in the study. Multivariate linear regression analyses were performed between birth weight, length, or head circumference and OC concentrations. Results: Median concentrations of…

Elimination of beta-hexachlorocyclohexane in occupationally exposed persons.

1997

The elimination of beta-hexachlorocyclohexane (beta-HCH) in humans was investigated in a group of 40 former workers of a lindane-producing plant by analyzing at least 2 blood specimens (3 specimens in 3 workers) from different time points. Assuming a first-order kinetic model for excretion, the median half-life of beta-HCH is 7.2 yr calculated by concentrations in whole blood and 7.6 yr calculated by concentrations in extractable lipids. In univariate analyses an influence of age, percent body fat, and liver disease (additionally in whole blood an influence of contents of extractable lipids) on clearance was observed. All factors show a positive correlation with half-life. According to a mu…
