EUROPEAN UNION’S COMPETITIVENESS IN TERMS OF COUNTRY RISK AND FISCAL DISCIPLINE

2012

Underneath the umbrella of national competitiveness there are microeconomic and macroeconomic factors, but the recovery and the revival of a state competitiveness must be based on a strategy developed and coordinated centrally and implemented in strategic areas of the economy. In this respect, this paper aims to analyze the situation of European Union’s competitiveness in terms of country risk and fiscal and budgetary discipline of the Member States, based on empirical data. Therefore, this study’s analysis includes the following two steps: first, a segmentation of the European Union by determining distinct groups of countries according to national competitiveness (GCI), public debt (PD) an…

Przepis art. 299 Kodeksu spółek handlowych jako funkcja prawa o niewypłacalności

2022

Przepis art. 299 Kodeksu spółek handlowych nawiązuje do treści art. 298 Kodeksu handlowego. Polski ustawodawca model spółki z ograniczoną odpowiedzialnością generalnie oparł na regulacji niemieckiej. Niemniej z uwagi na częste przypadki nadużywania formy spółki kapitałowej wprowadził szczególną odpowiedzialność członków zarządu. Regulacja art.

Buffer strips can pre-empt extinction debt in boreal streamside habitats

2013

Background. Conservation of biological diversity and economical utilization of natural resources form an almost inevitable confrontation between the two. In practice, however, a balance between the two ought to be found, and in managed boreal forests, preservation of woodland key habitats is increasingly used strategy to safeguard biological diversity. According to the Finnish Forests Act, certain Forest Act habitat (FAH) types must be safeguarded, provided they are clearly distinguishable from their surroundings. Furthermore, once the habitat has been identified as a FAH, its special characteristics must not be altered. Both of these aspects contain ambiguities that potentially undermine t…

Seeking Technical Debt in Critical Software Development Projects : An Exploratory Field Study

2016

In recent years, the metaphor of technical debt has received considerable attention, especially from the agile community. Still, despite the fact that agile practices are increasingly used in critical domains, to the best of our knowledge, there are no studies investigating the occurrence of technical debt in critical software development projects. The results of an exploratory field study conducted across several projects reveal that a variety of business and environmental factors cause the occurrence of technical debt in critical domains. Using Grounded Theory method, these factors are categorized as ambiguity of requirement, diversity of projects, inadequate knowledge management, and res…

Looking for Peace of Mind? Manage your (Technical) Debt : An Exploratory Field Study

2017

Background: In the last two decades Technical Debt (TD) has received a considerable amount of attention from software engineering research and practice. Recently, a small group of studies suggests that, in addition to its technical and economic consequences, TD can affect developers’ psychological states and morale. However, until now there has been a lack of empirical research clarifying such influences. Aims: In this study, we aim at taking the first step in filling this gap by investigating the potential impacts of TD and its management on developers’ morale. Method: Drawing from previous literature on morale, we decided to explore the influence of TD and its management on three dimensio…

Testing explosive bubbles with time-varying volatility: the case of Spanish public debt

2023

In this paper the dynamics of the Spanish public debt-GDP ratio is analysed during the period 1850–2021. We use recent procedures to test for explosive bubbles in the presence under time- varying volatility (Harvey et al., 2016; Harvey et al., 2019, 2020; Kurozumi et al., 2022) in order to test the explosive behavior of Spanish public debt over this long period. We extend previous analysis of Esteve and Prats (2022) where assume constant unconditional volatility in the underlying error process.

Semi-natural habitats in boreal Europe: a rise of a social-ecological research agenda

2021

The European continent contains substantial areas of semi-natural habitats, mostly grasslands, which are among the most endangered habitats in Europe. Their continued existence depends on some form of human activity, for either production or conservation purposes, or both. We examined the share of semi-natural grasslands within the general grassland areas in boreal Europe. We reviewed research literature across the region to compile evidence on semi-natural grasslands and other semi-natural habitats, such as wooded pastures, in respect to a range of topics such as ecology, land-use change, socioeconomics, and production. We also explored drivers of the research agenda and outlined future re…
